Macbook Pro & HVX200

I am very new to this, in fact this is my first thread. I've tried to find the answer to my question in many places and have been un successful. I just bought an HVX200, P2, and already owned a Macbook Pro. I "CANNOT" get any thing that I pull of the P2 to preview or play on my Macbook Pro. Is there a software that im missing? The manual makes it sound automatic but that is not the case for me. My main concern is if I am indeed uploading from my P2 card what I actually recorded. I only have one P2 card for now, "CAUSE IM BROKE" from buying all these parts. I dont know what I am saving to my Macbook, I just have a folder that is named contents, that has 6 sub folders, all of which I cant open the files for except the BMP's. I know this is probably preschool to anyone who reads this but thanks for any help in advance!

you need an Editing program, preferably Final Cut Pro 5.1 for that sick laptop of yours. Youve got the vet but now it needs some gas!

That easy! Ok thats my next buy... I was going for a firestore, but I think this is more important.
...Does this let me hook up my HVX200 to the Macbook and preview in realtime as well?
Thanks 4 the help & the props.

Ya the newest free update after you install 5.1 it will make it 5.1.2 and it has preview options, so after you transfer the card over to your desktop, you load up the P2 card (the folder you copied) into FCP via import and you can view your clips, and set in and out points and capture only the clips you want, you dont have to waste extra disc space copying all the clips, just the ones you want to use. Then you also get an amazing suite of software. A total suite. Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Soundtrack, and Motion the whole shabazz

It's not important, it's essential.

FCP 5.1 supplies the DVCProHD codec which allows you to play the clips.

Or if its only viewing clips you need buy P2 log ($99 US) and use that on the Mac book to view your footage. As for editing its final cut or some other edit program capable of 1080 & 720 DVCPRO-HD and DVCPRO-50

Thanks, I am immediately concerned with previewing my footage. Thanks again for the tips.

I cannot find P2 Log for ($99 US) I only see $(199 US) still not bad, and the description says any MXF clips including 720 but mentions nothing about 1080... Please advise

Which version of HD LOG just lets me view all the format clips I record that the HVX200 can do, without making me just put that $$ towards FCP.

p2 Log does and the introductory price was $99.00.

However, what do you want to do with the clips other than exporting them for editing?

Without the DVCProHD codec, you can only view them in p2 Log.

Ok, Right track?!

Ok, Right track?!

I just want to view them, nothing more. I am just trying to collect lots of different footage and want to make sure that it is indeed what I'm transferring to my MBP, I will buy FCP but rather just by the log until I have most of the footage I need. - Thanks

By the way, Avid pro HD is better for HD. It even has full screen play back. SO if your system can handle 1080p at full rez it looks soooooooooo nice. course it helps if you have a nice hd monitor to see it. I recomend the new dell 24 inch wide screen. Just got one and it's amazing. It's less exspensive then the other brands and has better picture quality. 1920 by 1200 lines, colors are great... Just a thought.

but I already have a Macbook Pro, and a dual quad G-5, and rather have simple software purchases and same platform intergration that entire new systems...

FCP full-screen playback of 1080P is ace too, I use it all the time. You can even perform edits in fullscreen, JKL works etc.
