I don't know about ex1 footage with mac book but if you have a cinema display 15 inch would be best. I have a 17 inch and sometimes I wish I had 15. saves you $$$
I'm not sure as the 15" and 17" has the same graphics card. and it is always better to have an external monitor. I'll stick to the 15" and get an external monitor as I think the performance is faster as the internal graphics has a smaller LCD screen to process in the 15" one then the 17"
for portability you are best served with the 15 inch -- and for real editing 17 won't be large enough anyways.... although the HD 17" screen on the macbook pro is pretty tasty...
thing is..... i'll be living and working in india/ asia for the 3 years (rent a house) and the macbook will serve as the primary screen. don't want the hassle of hunting for an expensive external out there and i will already be heavily weighted heading out.
it's always been enough with the 15" but i end up wondering if i'll be missing something with that 1920 x 1200 screen.
honestly dude, as an editor and especially on mac book 17 or 15 you need external monitor. for quality output you have to have a monitor even a cheap one
jawad,
i hear you on the external monitor..... but
if you've ever set up in multiple countries while shooting/ cutting you know you have to keep it lean and mean. i've cut all my stuff on a 15" for the past 6 years and it lands at the biggest fests on the planet.
this project will go through a real online after the rough is done in south india. question is 15" or 17"?
essentially your getting more res with the 17, if you dont mind the size and have the money, why not? As far as externals go? Acer makes a nice 25.5 inch 1920x1200 nice contrast ratio. Im buying one at the end of the month but for me 15 inch is all I need, I am still shooting on the dvx so really I dont even need a macbook pro, just future proofing a bit.
