Mac video clip

Please see the file below shot on the HMC-150. It has a mysterious color band across it. It is not on the original MTS file, nor does it show up when I transcode to WMV on my PC. It only shows up in my Final Cut Pro project. I am thinking it is the Mac that is causing it when I upload the MTS file to it so as to work in Final Cut Pro. All other files within the same Private folder as this are fine. Any suggestions on what is causing it? Thanks.

Don't even try to edit MTS files in FCP - you need to transcode to ProRes 422 (or 422 LT if you have FCP 7). The colour band you are seeing is a decode error during playback. FCP 7 is not designed to do this with MTS files.

Are you editing the MTS file with a plugin, or transcoding to prores?

Hmm. I am not sure. I am not well versed in the technical language. What I am doing is uploading the MTS files to my Mac by simply copying the MTS file "Private" folder from my external hard drive to the Mac. Then when I go into Final Cut Pro I am "logging and transferring" that "Private" folder into Final Cut Pro.
Could you please explaing the difference between "plugin" and "transcoding to prores"? How do you transcode into prores, and what does that actually mean? Thanks for your response.

There wil be a plugin released in the fall for MTS but for now..prores.

Can you please explain in the simplest terms possible what a plugin is? And what will the "plugin" do for the MTS files and Mac (Final Cut Pro) compatability? Thanks.

Looks like they will be releasing this summer not this fall.

Wiesbaden - 22. February 2011 - Panasonic Marketing Europe has introduced “AVCCAM Importer” software, a QuickTime plug-in that eliminates the need to convert AVCHD files to ProRES422 files before editing in Final Cut Pro.

AVCCAM Importer is software for Apple Final Cut Pro to enable direct editing of AVCHD ".mts" files without conversion. Since AVCCAM Importer is a plug-in component for Apple QuickTime,
QuickTime Player can play AVCHD ".mts" files and other software based on QuickTime Framework can also handle AVCHD ".mts" file directly after installation of AVCCAM Importer on a Mac.

The AVCCAM importer will be available this summer by free download from the Panasonic Web site.
