Well I just got finished doing my first wedding and know I'm exporting it into encore.
So here it is my after effects comp is rendering out.14hrs!!!
ok so i'm going to bed what do i do if i cant put the computer to sleep?
Should i have my screen saver up?
What do u guys do if you have to leave your computer running for long periods of time?

since my office is open to my bedroom, i just turn off my monitor...the fan noise only bugs for a few, till it becomes sweet white noise...but i always wake up anxious, and i'm usually late for work because i like to peek at my finished project a few times haha and if something went wrong, i'm usually pissed off all day at work :-P

Hi Guys,

You must be in the land of the windows users?, I currently use a Intel Macpro 3ghz . mpeg 2 renders are done at twice realtime, ie, 1hr movie takes 28mins to render, and can can rendered in the background while your working on another part of the production for example.
These latest mac's are a real time saver and very very productive compared to the earlier boxes mac or wondows, I don't have the need anymore to do late night renders , they are a thing of the past. or they are used when your just starting out in this industry.
when you make spare cash from your work, a very wise investment is a Grunty box as your edit platform.

Well i dont think that is true I filmed all my footage HD uncompressed so the total amount was around 90GB's so i encoded it to 2GB's thats why it toke like 14hrs.
I rendered it in AE and imported it in ENCORE.
But I only have a Intel core 2 duo with 3GB's of ram
so i dont know I would love to get a Mac Pro.

Hi Limitedoffer,

Not bad for a windows box, maybe your future posts you could give these details of what your encoding and what box specs you have.
that will make us more acquaint with what your trying to achieve.

PS, us FCP/mac users don't use screen savers at all, nor do we sleep our drives.and have auto software update turned off.

LOL us FCP guys...LOL
Well sorry i spent my money else where.
MAybe I'll just buy FCPStudio2 for the hell of it and not even use it just so i could say the same thing...

I havn't turned my mac editing system off for ages. Probably 3-4 months now. I only ever turn it off when theres a powercut or I need to put more ram in it. Ive filled it up with as much ram as it will take so I dont think I will be turning it off for a while.

Its in efficient to turn it off and it dosnt need restarting every few hours like PCs...

May I ask what camera you shot component from? Seems like (camera depending) bit of a waste to capture component then just crush that down in post anyway for a SD DVD out?

I don't know what the world did before mac computers... I bet NASA just hates it when they have to shut down the space shuttle and sit there floating in space, I mean since they have to shut off a PC every few hours and all.

Macheads never fail to crack me up.

Where do you get the idea that Windows machines need to be shut down every few hours?

I do shut down my machine every evening; I don't see much reason for drawing a few hundred watts of power when I'm not using it.

But when I worked in an office for a big corp, they told us to keep our machines running overnight. I had a Windows machine run continuously for almost two years straight.

Seriously, some of these bedtime stories border on the bizarre.

This thread began badly, it's titled, "Mac staying up late".
not enough info was given in the posters question, and the reply's have just gone downhill from there.

Yes, Bizarre is what it is..

Cheers
i'm outa here.
