1DC: Mac Pro 2013 4k performance

Do you use MJPEG at all?

My Computer only sees the original files for the shortest amount of time... After import, a ProRes 422 becomes my new master file. I don't even archive the original files.

I put exported frames from MJEPG and ProRes in Photoshop and looked at it though the "difference" function and there was nothing between them.

Dear Andree

I still want to use the mjpeg direct.

If it is RED or sony or Prores I do not have a big problem with my old 2011 17" MBP, I just do not want to spend time converting

I have save enough money for the 6 Core D700 1Tb Mac Pro with some spare for a BM4K or a new hexchopter, want to know if I need the 8 or 12 core instead.

I am working on the Adobe CC though.

Can you give the 1DC mov file a try? before I start my new year shopping

Also I am wondering if I can upgrade the Flash drive or CPU my self later. I guess upgrading Ram is not a problem now?

While the 8-core probably is the sweet spot for power users (both 6-core and 8-core boost to 3.9GHz for single thread), the 6-core is a perfectly fine choice for sure. It's the price/performance choice.

You can upgrade the SSD-blade later, but it might be a while before there are good/large/cheap options out there. CPU is not a user upgradable item.

The test was not done by me I'm afraid, I just provided the link. I don't have a new Mac Pro yet—they're hard to come by!

I understand not wanting to waste time with media management. I'm on FCPX so I get my ProRes Masters and ProRes LT proxies automatically on import. Then I just replace my original media with the ProRes 422 and I'm done without wasting space (originals and ProRes 422 are similar in size).
