Mac --> PC---> Mac colors getting washed out.

I have been recieving quicktimes in DVCpro50 from a Mac and I have to bring them into Eduis and export for after effects to see them. Then I render out TGAs when I'm finished. When it gets sent back to the Mac the colors are looking washed out. Whats happening?

The files are being telecommuted.

What format are you rendering out to from Edius?

Ideally I would render out uncompressed from the Mac. It seems like you're going through a lot of compression before you get back there, you're bound to lose some info along the way. . .Either that, or try exporting from Edius as uncompressed, work with that until you get back to the mac. In my experience I've found Compressor generates a much nicer quicktime than AE.

Hope this helps. . .

Sounds like a gamma shift....
Have the MAC guy export as Animation or PhotoJPEG at 95% so you
take that directly into AE....
Then you export as Animation or PhotoJpeg at 95%.
Then see if the colors are shifting.
The MAC guy may need to adjust gamma
to either .9 or 1.2 - Have them match what
you doing to their original.
Hope that helps.

Thanks, I will try that.

I'm rendering out DVCpro50 avi.

Are there any adjustments I can make to match the Mac?

You could test by outputting a version with no correction
and then one with a gamma of .9, another with a gamma
of 1.1 and then 1.2....But really I think the MAC guy will need
to do the final adjustment based on his original file.
My experience has been if someone else started messing
with the gamma it was to hard to match back to
the original. Have the MAC guy export a .tiff sequence for
you.....and then you save back as .tiff not .tga...
MAC's like .tiffs better.

nothing seems to be working. Should he be sending me QT files or tif or TGAs?
I have to open the quicktime in edius and rerender to something that aftereffects will read and then render out for him.

We figured it out. Instead of sending me quicktimes he sent me TGAs and the color stayed the same all the way through. The quicktimes were washing out for some reason.
