Mac Keynote live

Built in wi-fi as well. It will only be a matter of time before someone writes a voip widget and everyone is making long distance calls via wifi inside starbucks, etc.

I'm hung up on the small capacity and the battery life though. It looks as if this is being positioned as a supplement to the real ipod, not a replacement. 8 gigs???

That's exactly my point. I suspect that they couldn't have started out with a larger capacity, because in some ways it could combat iPod sales? I mean, why would you need an iPod when you can just have a phone that does the same thing and more?

Wi-Fi connection is cool, and should be expected. Makes me wonder how fast the connection is going to be. Should be as fast as a Macbook's Airport yeah? I'd have to go back to read about the wi-fi connection.

How long is the battery life? Didn't even read that either.

5 hours of phone calls. 16 hours of dead time. 8 hours of audio i think. 5 hours of video i think. thats battery life.

wifi is just as fast as any device.

and you have to buy them with a service agreement so it wont dip into ipod sales.

Forgot that it was a phone. LoL.

5hours of Video and stuff sounds great. There's nothing wrong with that batterly life at all.

Yeah the capacity is a bit on the low side. I think they need to come up with a different way to upgrade that doesn't mean buying a whole new device. That is the one thing about the apple business model that i don't like. It was tolerable for the ipod, but not for a $600 dollar bad boy like this.

Is there a HD inside or is it solid state memory?

I think it's quite short. I can currently plug my treo650 in and not have to recharge it for 2 days. A phone that won't even stay functional for even 24 hour is just not that handy. I'm sure they'll work more on the battery life before it launches (hopefully).

And to only be able to do video for a few hours before your entire cell phone goes dead is a bit of a bummer. Don't get me wrong, I want one of these bad boys as much as the rest, but the battery issue is really bugging me. Even if they had to make it an 1/8" thicker to accomodate a battery that would last at least 24 hours on standby, with about 10 hours of video and/or music and 6 or 7 hours of talk time would make me happy. That, and bump it up to at least 20-30 gigs to start.

I'll give you that 20-30 gig bump to start, that's for damned sure. I'm beginning become a bit "eh" thanks to that 8gig limit.

Just checked out the site. Did you watch the phone demo they have there? For the example the person had to touch the screen 10 times just to CALL SOMEONE! Remembering the phone number would be easier... And faster ...And our brains would be able to develop more.

Down with iPhones! And calculators! And computers! ...Wait, scratch that last one. :)

I haven't watched the live video yet. Haven't had a chance to play it back yet on a faster connection but I shall.

I didn't see mention of a touchscreen pad, though I can probably imagine the troubles that may arise. I'll have to watch it!

Wow, the iPhone is blowing my mind. That's the most well-thought-out product I've seen in a LONG time. Anyone know when they're gonna become available?

in June with service from Cingular.

Looks pretty cool for a Version 1.0. They've got some work to do, but it's still pretty innovative, especially compared to the snooze inducing phones being cranked out by most manufacturers. Not too happy about Cingular and Edge, but hopefully that'll open up at some point. Touchscreens usually suck for efficient interfaces, so maybe Apple has done some work to improve them for the iPhone. I'll be looking forward to the 2G and 3G versions; you fanboys can shake out the bugs and pay the early adopter taxes. :)

I dunno, I didn't see an answer to the one question I had: What happens when I drop it on average twice a week, like I do my current cell phone. This thing looks like it's toast after one meet with an NYC sidewalk...

was hoping for new FCS 6.0, Leopard, Mac Pro or a 12" MBP, and guess what ? NADA ! :(

Remember Macworld is a consumer conference, with the exception of Leopard (which we all know is coming anyway) the rest of the things you mentioned are pro-related products and will be announced at a later date

Lots and lots. As stated, my drawback is the 8gb drive size. Could've been something great with a larger capacity. But, I'm to assume it's going to follow the iPod trend, where those who adopted earlier get shafted half a year later when a larger capacity gets spit out by the Apple Machine.

I'm guessing that since they are using Flash as storage, that is the reason for the smaller size. My guess is that a larger hard drive would have hurt the already fragile battery life, and of course the physical implications...but what do I know, I'm not an engineer.

I thought the the same thing, although I don't drop my phone near as much, but I would hope for anyone buying a $500+ phone, get some good protection.

The capacity is clearly as large as they could implement right now without switching to a hard drive based system and still be able to keep the price as psuedo-low as it is. And frankly, who wants a phone with a hard drive spinning all the time?

And, a quick look on the Apple website (surprising no one bothered) shows that the battery life is 5 hours for "Talk/Video/Browsing" and 16 hours for "Audio playback". It says absolutely nothing about standby time. I can't imagine you were all planning to listen to music whenever you weren't taking a call.
