Mac clones

I remember someone had posted about PCs that run OSX or something. Anyone have the link to that? I'm going to have to take the Mac dive because of the RED but I don't want to pay Mac prices if I can get something else.

I have heard very bad things about Psystar, aside from the fact that Apple has been litigating to get them shut down.

Psystar computers running OSX have been known to be pretty unstable, and a bit clunky. Just a thought.

That, and you can't get a bit of Apple support for software with these.
 
Yeah, this seems not to be the option. I have been looking into buying a used joint that's maxed out with what I need.

I've been looking at a used iMac but I'm thinking forward to tapeless and the power needed for those cameras but I'm interested in seeing what this new JVC will be like. That could indeed change the game for Mac users.

Remember that installing MacOS on non-Apple branded hardware is a violation of the EULA, and therefore illegal under Copyright law.

If you want to run a stable, secure OS on a PC, run GNU/Linux.

Ha ha, I think he wants a secure, stable OS that's actually useful. :)

*Only a joke. I have several Linux boxes myself. But you cannot do any serious video work on them, so I think it rules out for him.
 
I was told that apple had launced a lawsuit against them, and knowing apple, they will win it...

Id just get the mac, if youve got a RED you can afford one. The build quality is worth it alone.
 
The problem is that everything that goes with the RED is 20 times more expensive than HVX stuff so I'm trying to save on the computer side of things cause there is soooooo much to get still.
 
Yeah avoid the clones- they are crap. Chances are high the Psystar will be sued right out of business later this year and they are essentially hacking the OS to work on their hardware. You end up with the Mac OS running on cheapo hardware with no guarantee it's going to keep working from update to update. It's kinda like buying a faux Ferrari kit car with a Volkswagen engine in it. If you want to go Mac, scratch up the change and get the real thing. You get what you pay for.
