Great! Thanks for the heads up Disjecta.

Huzzah! Good lookin out boda. :)

Re: Lunar Eclipse Tonight, October 27

:( Forecast says cloudy all through the night. Bummer, just love that apocalyptic blood red moon.

Re: Lunar Eclipse Tonight, October 27

It'll be cloudy here as well. So long as it isn't too thick (partial) cloud cover could make for some really interesting shots.

Re: Lunar Eclipse Tonight, October 27

It's going to be clear here. The only clear night of the forseeable future. Guess I lucked out there.

I'm going to shoot this thing and do a timelapse but here's the problem. The whole eclipse is going to last about an hour and a half. The moon will easily move out of my frame multiple times during this process. I don't want to shoot too wide because I won't get the detail I am looking for (I'm shooting with the 1.6x teleconverter).

It's going to look silly to keep reframing it, particularly with a timelapse....what to do?

Re: Lunar Eclipse Tonight, October 27

Try to find if a local astronomy club has a viewing session(most do on events like that). Someone might have one of those fancy motor-driven telescopes - maybe the'll let you attach the DVX to it. You'd have the moon in the same spot in the frame for the whole time.

Re: Lunar Eclipse Tonight, October 27

Oh, I forgot to mention - you may want to create a mask with a round cutout and put it over your EVF display for easier re-framing. It WOULD be silly, but at least you'd have something close enough - then you could use track motion to put the moon in the right spot in post. But I think that would be really painful exercise...

Re: Lunar Eclipse Tonight, October 27

That's actually not a bad idea....I could easily do that in After Effects..

Thanks...

Re: Lunar Eclipse Tonight, October 27

Its raingin here in San Diego (180 days of no rain and the last 2 weeks its rained like men; get it? the song? hello?)

Ill be bummed if we cant see it as my wife wanted to show our son tonight.

Re: Lunar Eclipse Tonight, October 27

Ya - So I’m trying to watch the lunar eclipse using the pin hole through cardboard technique we were taught in school (you know, so you don’t burn your retinas) :P

Anyway – don’t seem to be working. ;D

Re: Lunar Eclipse Tonight, October 27

Not sure if you are joking or not :)

Isnt the pinhole thing used for solar eclipses? And I still don't understand why that is so often suggested... hmm.
