Lumix G X Vario PZ 14-42mm lens: problems officially fixed or not?

DPreview says this lens has problems: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/PanasonicDMCGX1/page16.asp#lens, and say they will "will update this review should any further information come to light." I haven't seen any update. Reviewers on Amazon and B&H say some copies do have problems and some don't.

Anyone know what Panasonic's response has been, and whether this lens still has problems?

A more thorough web search since posting my question has revealed that Panasonic is probably ignoring the problems with this lens. As of July 2012, the consensus seems to be that:

• Panasonic is ignoring this problem
• there are bad lenses still being sold
• one cause of the problem is camera shake due to a noisy shutter in various camera models
• before buying make sure you can return the lens
• once you have the lens, you have to test it to make sure the lens is okay.

It's a real pity that this lens is sus, and that Panasonic hopes the problem will go away without doing anything about it.
