GH5 Lumix DC-GH5 firmware update ver. 2.0 – major upgrade

Nice indeed! I hope the autofocus capabilities will be better with this update. I'm interested to know if Premiere Pro 2017 can handle the FHD 10 bit 200Mbps mode, anyone can confirm this?

Great that they added an IS lock function! And the HLG log over HDMI for 50/60p is welcome as well!

The only bummer is that apparently the summer, according to Panasonic, is still going by the end of September :(

That anamorphic functionality (and some of the nice surprises that are part of it) might make me a GH5 owner when this update is released.

Hey guys -

I hate shooting log (simply put, I just don't). Is this HDR/HLG option a traditional log, or something that's burned in that I won't need to compensate for on the grade?

Either way, this firmware is looking amazing. Hoping the anamorphic goodness is eventually translated to the EVA.

My understanding is that it's a HDR hybrid gamma that combines HDR LOG and linear gamma qualities into one format. It will probably look best on an HDR display, but it does work with non-HDR displays. ( I don't think it has to be graded if the playback device recognizes the HLG format )

The fact that anamorphic is not really ideal for external recording via HDMI it is great to see 4:2:2 and 10bit included as options. Bummer that the full "6k" cannot use the 400mbps but glad to see they managed 200mbps IPB 10bit. This should make anamorphic film making much more realistic since anamorphic is typically used for high end film where log and 4:2:2 10bit can make a difference when it comes to a heavy post grading workflow or VFX. Panasonic is really turning anamorphic into a solid reality for budget film makers. Now if there were only a wider range of newer anamorphic lens options.

I had hoped for 60fps 3840x2160 All-I at 300-400Mbps. IMO only having 30fps 4K at 400Mbps bit rate won't handle fast motion subjects well.

All of these big-picture additions look awesome!

Hoping they have some unlisted small additions as well that have cropped up on the forums here over time (i.e. user-definable IBIS focal length presets, locked max screen brightness, etc.)

Odd that it's late September, as that definitely missed the summer window... oh well! What's a few more weeks, would rather have them get it right. (though I am hoping that sort of delay does NOT happen with the EVA-1!!)

I like this news. I really want improved continuous AF in 24p video. It's so bad now. In 60p it's much better but I don't shoot in 60p. I use it for slowmo only. If Panasonic gets this working I will be thrilled.

+100 for the need for usable affordable anamorphic lenses...though at 2900 the SLRMagic 50 M4/3 mount seems really to be getting there!

Which SDXC cards are recommended for 400Mbit ALL-I mode.

The two guys that run the CRFTSHO YouTube channel that shot a GH5 4K HDR anamorphic short for Panasonic ( the trailer was released Aug 30th ), using the pre-release version of firmware 2.0, stated that were only able to shoot with SDXC UHS-II V90 cards. All non-Vxx cards they tried did not work, no matter how fast they were spec'd. What was a little surprising is that they said that V60 cards would only record for 5 seconds before shutting down. So right now it looks like it has to be SDXC UHS-II V90 cards to shoot with the 400 Mbps recording formats.

I agree, I would love to have a go with shooting in Anamorphic, but the current setup and adapted lenses, screw on adaptors etc isn't for me.

I remember Panasonic had a 1.33 converter out - which go now for mega money on eBay, perhaps its time for them to do a 2x version for use on their lumix lenses
