lumix 20mm pancake- pulling focus takes forever?

Is it just my particular lens, or is the amount that you have to turn the the ring to pull focus ridiculous? I'm finding it takes upwards of 10 seconds sometimes to get a pull from something close to far. Is this normal for this lens? I have a Nikon 50mm 1.8 that is a breeze to pull focus. Is there a setting I'm missing on the camera or pancake?

Yes, unfortunately this is just how this lens works. The focus is not mechanical. The quickest way to pull focus with that lens would probably be to use the touch screen on the GH2 to define focus points. A little janky, yes, maybe, but it may work better than turning the focus ring a bazillion times.

If i'm not mistaken, the focus on that lens is "velocity based". Aaron is right, the focus is not mechanical, rather electrical, and they thought it was a brilliant idea to make it so if you spin the focus fast it is more responsive than when you spin it slow. To turn it less times, you just have to turn it faster, or use another lens.

Yes, the focus is s...l....o....w...... and so is the iris adjustment. By the time it registers on my AF100, I've already tried to adjust again the other way. This is the one lens I use the AUTO mode for 100% of the time. It does provide some nice images though!

It sure does. Okay, thanks guys! I did notice when spinning it faster it became more responsive. Didn't try the focus points thing, but that sounds useful as well.
