GH2 Lumix 14-140mm not a real x10 zoom

May be it has been covered in other post but, under risk to be bombed, I discovered in my tests that my zoom is really a x8.5 power zoom!! The good news is that the wide angle is right, 14mm, but in tele position it doesn't reach more than 120mm!! Even my Pentax 8-48mm (in ETC mode, x2.6= equivalent about 21-125) is more tele... My Zeiss 135mm is much more narrow...
May be is only my lens? Make your test: measure in a wall the horizontal coverage in wide and tele positions and divide...
Anyway I am happy with it: really really sharp (may be too contrast). But I think Panasonic lies here...
Only the best.

If the 140mm is realy only 120mm panasonic should be prosecuted,BUT E-T-C is no way to compare a focal length imo.

Look up "focus breathing", i think this will fill in where those extra mm's went.

I would repeat the same A/b comparsion at infinity or near infinity, I bet those extra mm's may just come back!

Sadly, focus breathing is more and more becoming accepted in the still photo's world of complex zoom lens'. Many people complained about it on the new nikon 70-200 VRII becuase it was much more pronounced than it is on most other zooms. And that's just a 3x zoom.

I have taked two pictures at infinity with same lenses (Lumix 140 and Zeiss 135) and here the diferences are minor: Zeiss is only a minimal narrow than Lumix... What I understand is this zoom the "focus breathing" isn't present because the internal focus lens. All my zooms with "focus breathing" or not that I have tested (and I have some of them as I came from movie equipment) have more or less the power than they write... It isn't he case in this zoom. Perhaps, as I wrote, something is wrong with the mine. Can anyone test the same?: just measure the total horizontal distance covered, at same focus, in wide and tele position and divide the measures? Mine gives about 8,5!! I am missing something?

10x zoom refers to the focal length range (14mm to 140mm), not the field of view (horizontal coverage) range.
For example, the field of view of a 25mm lens is not 2x the field of view of a 50mm lens.

So you are saying your zeiss 135mm has slightly more zoom than the panas 140mm,not being a lens expert or knowing about focus breathing it does not seem right,to me a 100mm/200mm/300mm lens should be that length.

You was (almost) right, joesiv. Finishing extensive tests I conclude that the only x10 power in this zoom is at infinity focus!! So when the focus decrease the power also... At minimal focus (0.5m) the power is only x6,2!! (in this distance my Zeiss 50mm covers the equivalent to 65mm focal in the Lumix!!). I learn something every day...
