I am leaning towards LTO 2 for backup of our dailies (1 Tape for MXFs, 1 for MOV everyday). Do you need software like Retrospect to interact with a LTO deck -- I assume it doesn't mount like an ordinary drive in Finder.
Is Retrospect the best (only) solution for a Mac? It seems geared towards keeping all data up to date on a drive, where I just need something we can throw our new dailies on everyday (with hopefully some type of cataloging capabilities to know what files are on what tapes).
If I use Retrospect to backup, can anyone read these LTO 2 tapes, or do they need a Retrospect file and/ or Retrospect? These LTO 2 tapes will likely be our deliverables to the distributor (original camera files), I just want to make sure they will be usable to others (10 years from now) who have a LTO deck, not just us.
