GH2 Low light

owners of the new canan XA-10 who also own GH2s say the GH2 needs a 20mm pancake to match the canons low light, makes me wonder why any DSLR would be used for wedding filming especialy considering the overal ease of use.

Yes DOF.

...I noticed with some of the footage I've seen shot with the Canon XF100 that the lens is very flare prone, which makes me wonder if the XA-10 has the same problem.

the point i am making is using one for filming weddings has to be easier than with the GHs or even more than canon DSLRs

This is kind of obvious. ENG style cameras are a lot easier to use for just about any type of video shoot, but you have to be able to live with the deep DOF.

I own a HMC-150, and trying to shoot an interview with the background out of focus means having to shoot from 12-15 feet away and cranking the zoom out almost all the way. With the GH-2 / AF-100 camera I can shoot the same interview from 6 feet away and do a better job of blurring the background. It's a much nicer look when shot with the GH-2 / AF-100 camera. Sure it's more work, but the results can be significantly better.

A lot of high-end wedding shooters have switched to DSLRs and the AF-100 for the same reason.

XA-10 is a more expensive option than a GH2 with 20mm pancake.

Actually as some of these folks also rave about the TM700...and having owned a TM700 it didnt even compare to a GF1 in lowlight ability...had terrible in camera sharpening and off colour/soft videos when indoor shooting.

Yes agreed Dingo i find the GH2 very good as long as i have time with shots but it not a camcorder, they have different uses imo.

I found gh2 with pancake unusable for hand held video because of the lack of anti-shake. As well you cant depend upon its autofocus because it hunts ALOT.

Come on panasonic where the frig is a fast video optimized lens?

The 20mm is fine for handheld but it does require a delicate hand and my tai chi comes into play. I also think that auto focus is going to bite ya in the booty if you use it. Only time I use it is when I'm flying on my steadicam and don't have an assistant. Other than that I'd rather rely on myself to make the mistakes.
