*low-light* short film- either the GH2 Or 5D?

I don't know why you don't have the other canon cameras as options there. While the 5D may process low light slightly better, with that camera (due to full frame), you are going to have a much more narrow area in focus, so you are going to have to stop your lens down more in order to keep things in focus, therefor diminishing any returns you are going to get (unless you are planning to shoot everything at f1.2, but I have yet to see that done for a film where it didn't ruin the film by having everything out of focus).

If you are going to be doing color correction afterwords, I would suggest going with something like the 60D or 7D, which will give you a larger area in focus at the same f-stop. That will also allow you to put more money into getting good lenses, which will be needed to shoot in low light (this is one area where the kit lenses just aren't going to cut it).

+1 for GH2 with voigtlander 25mm f/0.95

the 5D has better low light abilities than its APS-C brothers, but it also has shallower depth of field, and that will kill you if you try to go "general purpose" with fast apertures; you can head over here to see what this means:

the GH2 has a great combination of low-light-capable sensor, medium depth of field, and one very very very fast but still affordable lens (careful, it's just "one", and you can shoot your entire film with it but it's not the natural way of doing things; for additional lenses, I'd go for manual lenses and dumb adaptors)

Manual lens.. so just get a prime 50mm. and a 25mm for low-light, will the kit lens that comes with it, allow me do use a good DOF for (selective focus) ??

everything is relative, but at F/3.5-5.6 that lens is on the slow side of things, and the sensor is huge by 2005 standards but smallish by 2011 standards

if terms of DoF, f/3.5 and F/5.6 on the GH2 are equal to f/4.2 and f/6.5 on APS-C, and f/6.7 and f/10.5 on fullframe

The trouble is it costs more than the camera and its not very wide for four thirds

May come as a shock but... most good glass costs more than any of these cameras... please do make a list of the ones at f/0.95 cheaper, by the way...

But its still 50mm in 35 terms far from wide enough.

If you want _fast_ and _wide_, then a 5Dm2 + 24/1.4 or 35/1.4 is likely the most affordable option. That's taking into consideration what fast/wide cine primes cost.

Thanks for that Kin but luckily my low light filming is not a high percentage.
