low light and occasional flashes

Hi,

I'm very new at this so please bare with me.

I was just wondering how low light situations mixed with some random flashes (or higher intensity light) are typically handled?

A good example is shooting a live indoor concert where things are usually pretty dark, but with the occasional high intensity spots, or lighting effects that seem to come out of nowhere, and may very well mess up your shots.

Does it come down to camera operators being quick on the controls? Are there filters that should be used?

I'm thinking of getting into the occasional live show shoots for local bands, but would like to first have some idea of what to expect.

thanks

If they are really short flashes, let them flash. Otherwise quick skills are indeed required.
Cheers,
Oliver

If you are on Manual controls, you will be fine, It will over expose for about, what maybe 4 frames, and then that is it, of course that is of course they are aimed right at you.. Also use the SpotLight feature, I think it is user button 2? by defualt I know this is To keep blacks from changing when you have changes in lighting, not sure, I have not played with it.
