"Love and War" a WWI film shot on the 5D

Wow, what interesting timing. I've been thinking the past 3 days of doing a WWII short on the 5D, but wasn't sure if that would be the best camera to use (shooting outside in daylight, and with the rolling shutter). Looks like you're inspired me to go through with my idea. :-P

Is that Tommy Lee Jones I see in the trailer? What other well known actors are in it, and where did you film this?

If you shoot it right you will never even know it has rolling shutter. I'm glad I inspired you!

That wasn't Tommy Lee Jones. :) It was shot around seattle washington and we used all local actors. It was a really fun project. Thanks for taking interest!

"Let me know what you think!"

They blatantly stole the music in the trailer.

The "You healed me" guy could use a few acting lessons (or a replacement).

Some of it looked better than others. Parts looked like it was shot on a cheap consumer camera. Other parts held up nicely.

@polfilmblog, I would love to know your backround, and how you can tell from one line in a trailer if this actor is bad, or needs lessons. I been shooting three films back to back for several years, dealing with hundreds of actors, And I can honestly say, I cant tell his ability from this. Are you sure your not just jealous, I mean show us some of your work, and how you get all top notch actors on a low budgets.

Secondly, how do you know he stole the trailer music? Did you ever think, they may have the right to use it. Or better yet, raising money for scoring the film.

Nothing like a negative jerk to come in and ruin a good posative thread.

The music is from a "The Thin Red Line" directed by Terrence Malick which was scored by Hans Zimmer.

That said there's a few shots in there that I enjoyed.

that is correct. It is from The Thin Red Line. The film will be scored after we raise the funding.

Loved the look, I'm just wondering what shutter you used as the faster shots look very video like. Love the lighting, set design and coloring. Great job.

usually 1/30th but sometimes 1/50th. What shots are you referring too exactly? And thanks for the compliments!

Hey all,

I wrote and directed this film. All the actors were quite talented (despite not being Tommy Lee Jones), so any criticism of their performance should be directed at me. May I suggest however that you wait until you’ve seen the finished piece before offering such feedback?

The music is not ours. If Mr. Zimmer or his representatives complain to us, we will take it down, but it’s very common to use music from other films in trailers, eg. Lux Aeterna in the Two Towers trailer.

Some people from these forums have contacted me with questions. I am happy to answer them and share the lessons we learned shooting this. That’s how we all get better. All I ask in return is that you consider contributing to our post-production costs. If you can spare a few bucks, I will spill my guts on all our production secrets. If you can’t spare any cash, please spread the word http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lgonda/love-and-war-a-short-film
