Loupe/viewfinder necessary with GH2?

Scor,

I found the LCD to be lacking in sunlight so I bought this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004RG4IIS/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00

It has a generous maginification, a nice view and best of all, it has a "case" which I have dubbed the view-thong that wraps around the viewfinder which allows viewing while the LCD is both open and closed.

I didn't want to have to glue/bilt a metal ring around my LCD so this was the best option.

And at the pricepoint, if it gets some use and then you upgrade.... you're not lost on the money you've spent...

It is without a doubt worth the $32 is costs.

The viewfinder is great! One of the best features of the GH2. Stick a pistol grip underneath and boom you've got a Bolex style camera.

Ha. I am trying to work it into my daily vocab now.

Any thoughts on what you're going to do with the viewfinder?

Think I'll give your suggestion a try. Does it fit well on gh2 lcd screen? The description says for 60d, t2i, etc. Also, do you use it much on the open lcd? Worried a bit about putting too much stress on it in the open position...

It fitting well is no worry at all. It fits great.

One of the down-sides of the other brand name, more expensive models out there, is that you have to affix, or as I call it "bilt", a metal ring onto your lcd... this requires glueing and allows the built in magnet in the viewfinder to "attach" to your lcd... the problem is that once you "bilt" the metal ring on, you can no longer close your lcd screen... it always juts out a little bit.

The one I bought, as linked above, is lightweight (absoloutely no stress on the lcd itself) and gives a generous magnification as well as a very bright lens... you can hold your head back, away from the eyepiece, and still see a magnified version of your lcd.

The "view-thong" can be seen here... http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/419cs1dZGbL.jpg

It attaches very well and works perfect.

Since the GH2 lcd has its own downsides as far as color differences from the actual image/video... I wouldn't spend the $100-300 to get an electronic or high-end viewfinder... This works perfect.

I use it often and my only other upgrade will be a lilliput to get actual color grades and a larger screen.

Thanks, Gundar. I'll give it a shot. sounds like it's well bilt.

BTW I have a lilliput that I bought for for my hvx and now use with the GH2 and I although I have only used it a few times it has functioned well, although I'm not sure I would trust the color...

Bilt... lol. I still wonder.....

Thanks for the info on the lilliput, even if not as trustworthy as I'd like on the color, I think it will still be on my list unless they come out with an HDMI-In Tablet ASAP.

The gh2 has a different size lcd than the t3i, 60d, ect... So no it does not fit well, I have both of those cams, and it's made for Canon, where it fits perfectly, the gh2, not so much. The gh2 has a 16x9 lcd the Canon does not. Make sure to get one made for the gh2.

Maran,

I got the one linked to in my original post after much deliberation and a few notes from friends with both the GH2k and some cannons. It fits like a charm for me. Do you have this exact model viewfinder?

Gundar,

Are you sure this is the exact model you purchased? Mine arrived today and it does not fit my GH2. It's too big. I ordered directly off your link.

UPDATE: I spoke with the seller and she said you have to use the neoprene pouch to affix the Viewfinder to the LCD instead of the L-frame. It doesn't allow you to close the LCD all the way, but it does work.

Ddort,

Yeah just checked my amazon orders page. That's the one. I messaged the company while ordering and told them I had a GH2 and asked if this exact model would fit, they said yes and sure enough it did upon arival.

Hope they don't/didn't change models or send me a different one based on my message to them... I would have to seriously reconsider my recommendation for this product...

What part does not fit with yours?

Sorry Gundar,

I was updating while you sent your post. Do you use the neoprene pouch to connect the Viewfinder to the LCD?
