Is there a way to display content without resizing? i.e. having a content window at exactly 1920 x 1080 pixels that is smaller than the lcd screen.

a monitor and TV are somewhat different in how they render stuff. Monitors aren't very good at scaling their signals, especially when doing fractional scaling such as the OP's 1200->1080. They usually depend on the video card to handle the scaling and stuff(which do it much better than the monitor could). The monitor is usually designed to display full screen at it's native resolution so it has a tough time scaling stuff that isn't exactly the ratio that it is natively.
1920x1200 is 16:10, not 16:9 so you'll get pixel resizing and stuff that make it look strange. I had this happen on a few monitors until I just bought one that could scale well.
A lot of new monitors can handle this and some of the older monitors can display letterboxes but most can't deal with the odd resolution.
i got a dell too, the u2410, its a complete other technology than the 2405, but check if u dont have 1:1 in 'Display Settings' / 'Wide Mode'
