Hey all,

My boy who works as My DP on larger stuff works for a studio in Miami that does Music videos. They shoot with the DVX100, a P+S telecine adapter and 35MM primes, ect.. anyway he recently put up a site with some of their more recent work. I feel like a proud popa and just had to pimp him out LOL

Anyway you can view all of them here http://homepage.mac.com/alexmia/Menu2.html

But here are a few suggestions on my part..

A Hip Hop track, with a cool homage to the Terminator. Shot bya crew of 5 in 18hours.

3 sets, a helicopter, Ferrari and Lots of water make a cool little video..

Very spanish song but Killer lighting.

So I know how much Music videos are enjoyed around here, so... enjoy

Oh almost forgot, if any havent seen it before do check out the "Tumbe" Trailer also the DVX package. He says it all... "This is how independent Action films should look"

What was the budget on the "Tumbe" film?

The compression is pretty bad but the videos looks really nice. Man you alll got some money! Hook a brotha up man! :)

Money?? What is that?? LMAO!! No the guy who owns the studio is doing pretty well, but he takes almost every penny he makes and puts it back into the company. Very pro actually. Shot a video for Ice-T and an in studio DVD for the Black Eyed Peas. Most of the music vids go for $8,000 to $12,000 depending..

AS for "Tumbe" I am pretty sure the budget was $8,000 but atleast under $10,000. When you own the gear and its your movie you can do that. Has a 2 ton grip truck, 16' remote jib, stedi cam, spider dollie, ect ect...

Truth Is the owner of the studio is super cool, and they are doing incredible things. I have a few music videos lined up to direct through them so I'll have some slicker stuff to show soon. Their only issue is quicktime compression, never has been very good. Any suggestions on that I can give them.

I'm loving the BAILANDO MV. Nice work; the latin women help of course. Mercy.

What insane aspect ratio is that Action Film? Like 2:00:1 ? :cheesy:

lol that rap song on the terminator styled video is so terrible.

I think I liked the bailando video the best.

lol

Yeah I don't do Rap as it is but that song was hurtin. But the latin women; did you see that chick in the red top? Mercy senorita

LOL gotta love the "up and comers" but Hey, they put up the cash for the video.. sometimes you cant choose the artists you work with, you can give them a killer video though

Oh and John, did you watch the Master Joe video... If not... do

You're right. I agree. and Bailando is really nice all around. The song, the girls, the lighting like you said is awesome. I think it's the most pro looking of the bunch.

We're going out to Miami to shoot 3 music videos. Leaving tomorrow. Doing two for Locos Por Juana, and one for Johnny Dread.
My columbian boy is over there right now and got the grip truck, models, and locations set up.
Hey if you guys want to come out, come out!

Hey I'll tell them your coming, though they are usually swamped. Know what company you are getting the gear through? What are the budgets ooking like? (I would say private message me that info if you care to share)

Great!

How did you do the shacky camera movements in the falldown video clip? It looks like it were done in editing, but i am not sure how.

Thanks!

I am not positive (I'll have to check and verify) but I believe they did that practically on the day. I know they have done the camera shake that way in the past.

UPDATE:
For those who didn't see, he has since uploaded two new videos. First is a The group Allure featuring Elephant man. GREAT DVX music video!, and a straight 25 hour shoot! Ouch

The Other is a video for Ice-T (Yes the Ice-T and yes, he is still around) and his Metal Band Body Count.

Both on http://homepage.mac.com/alexmia/Menu2.html

Enjoy.

I was sitting in Ice-T's Benz coupe a couple weeks ago on Rt. 35 in New Jersey at this rim place. Good god was that thing amazing!

Despite the ferrari and everything, the music video with the heli didn't look too artistic to me. Same elements as in most rap videos, only not as much CG. Cool cars, dancing, shaking ass.. *yawn*. (Sorry, i'm just not a rap fan, and even if I was, this doesn't make the video any more original).
Tumbe - well, seemed like an okay trailer. I think "the way indie action movies should be made" is saying a bit too much. Really.. I find Broken's trailer much more exciting and action-packed, even though it's more of a mystery film as I understand. Magic Bullet gradients, Bad Boys-like color correction, green matrix look.. Seen it all.
Oh, and all of the videos looked equally DV-ish to me, despite the P+S adapter.

Of course, we're all after different things... My opinion is that some love making films as a form of art, while the other category of film makers make films/videos for enterntainment. This is entertainment ( though not my type, hehe). The STADIUM video is clearly art (props to Firre, i'm still amazed by the quality :) )
