Lost - The Final Season Thread

I loved the episode. Which left me with many questions of course. But I moved all those questions to theories and I came up with some great theories who seem pretty strong. I believe...

Spoilers
Sayid is not Sayid, possibly Jacob is now in him.
Jacob is also another Smoke Monster from 1x4 "Walkabout" and 5x9 "Namaste"
Richard is actually an Egyptian god -- RA = Richard Albert? Source

Then it just makes it a massive coincidence that he also ended up on that plane, but massive coincidences seem as common as housedirt in the Lost universe.

i dont see how it's a coincidence any more than anything else considering the very deliberate disappearing act he pulled.

I tried watching it Wednesday night, I fell asleep halfway through.

I picked up Thursday night where I left off. Again I fell asleep.

I'm not saying it's terrible, but I think my head isn't into this anymore. I was absolutely glued to the screen watching Living In Oblivion earlier this week. No falling asleep during that.

It wasn't the most incredible ep ever, but it's the kick-off to a new year. I do like the parallel lives they've set up. And I like the hint about how Jack's dad gets to the island.

Not sure how I feel about John not being John anymore and Said not being Said...I like those guys, and not sure how I feel about them now being puppets.

As for these "OTHER" others, I thought for a second, it was a doppleganger thing.

Anyway, glad to still be into this show. Cast and writing are really good, and they've pulled an incredible mix of sci-fi geek-out, and melodrama.

I think the past decade of great TV has spoiled me for movies. The writing has been so good on so many shows, and TV really is a writer's medium, that I think it's really affected my ability to enjoy a lot of movies, where the writing is...well I would say secondary, but that's too generous. Movies being a director's medium, writing is NOT the most important element. And probably not even in the top 5. Anyway after having rich, complex characters like those of THE WIRE, THE SHIELD, LOST, MADMEN, BREAKING BAD, etc. etc. etc. I have almost no patience for films that have flat stereotypical characters anymore. Maybe I am just getting old.

Certainly true, although TV has the benefit of more time to lay pipe and develop characters than movies do. That doesn't excuse movies that don't, but in TV there is so much time to fill you NEED good writing just to keep people's interest. A movie just needs to provide 2 hours of thrills, excitement and laughs to satisfy most people. A TV show doesn't have the budgetary resources to provide that level of whiz bang entertainment week in, week out, so good drama fills the void. That's why writing is king on television.

Of course, I understand they are two different animals. I'm just saying that the films that don't bother with good writing intentionally lose my interest very very quickly, whiz-bang or no.

It's interesting though that mainstream TV is getting more and more complex while mainstream movies seem to be getting simpler and simpler.

I feel like it's always been this way to a degree. You know, everything is a soap opera now, with long arcs. Fewer just plain episodics like, say Engine 51 or CHIPS. And Soap operas have always done this. And they kept people watching for years for exactly the reasons you stated.

It's the production values and respect for the crafts involved that have caught up, I think. TV is no longer a ghetto. Many stars come and go between the two media effortlessly now.

I guess. So much has happened in this show I've probably forgotten more than I remember forgetting.

I recently re-watched the entire series and was amazed at how much I did not remember. The first 2 seasons I was like, "did I really see this before?"

Once I started to remember what happens, you see how deliberate choices were made early on which are clues to what will happen. It makes me think what is going on now is the same way. WE'RE BEING SET UP to be surprised.

LOL, except for Matthew Fox who says he's "not doing TV anymore after Lost".

Must be nice to be in a position where you call the shots. I'm sure a lot of actors wish they could do that, no? :Drogar-Thinking(DBG

Yeah, didn't David Caruso say the same thing? And Will Wheaton?

You made me pull out the Horatio Caine--

I've enjoyed every previous season of Lost, but this season not so much. Mainly because of the explanations of the mysteries.i.e why they're there, what the smoke monster is, the purpose of the island. Everything has gone more overtly supernatural. Previously it was more science fictiony. I found things relating to the Dharma Initiative a lot more interesting, but they've pretty much explained everything about the Dharma Initiative in the previous season. They should have made the Dharma Initiative the reason why the Island was the way it was.
I'm currenly watching a version of lost that has been edited to run in chronological order (no flashbacks) and it is very interesting.

Keep in mind the explanations we've been given might not be the truth, or maybe just partly the truth. I get the feeling a lot of what Jacob and the Man in Black / Locke have said is meant more metaphorically. We'll see.
