Lost "No Name" volume - what now?

I posted in the FCP forum and no answer yet, thought I would try here. After reading that I should copy the "No name" P2 volume to my HD rather than just import P2, I tried it - but must have done it wrong. Thought I could just drag and drop, but when I dragged the "No name" icon from the drive list over to the right, it disappeared with a "poof" animation and a sound similar to empty trash. Have not seen it since (it's not in the trash) and cannot get the camera to re mount. The footage is fine and viewable in camera, and if I turn off the camera I still get the message to eject device before disconnecting. Any idea how I can re mount the camera?

Update: Just tried P2 genie and it found the card and transferred the footage. Still don't see the "no name" icon in finder though.

Have you tried HD Log? The demo does offloading too, I use it all the time. Has a little better verification than Genie. Wondering if it would "see" or treat the folder any differently than Genie did for you?

Haven't tried HD log yet. Was very impressed with P2 Genie demo and will probably buy it. After using it I noticed my clips were showing up in FCP import, not sure if Genie had anything to do with it. Only problem now is, since P2 icon does not show up in Finder, I can't eject the camera properly before disconnecting.

Remember, once the volume is mounted from the cam, you need to option drag it to copy. A "+" sign in green must appear.

Otherwise you are just creating an alias in OSX

If you can't see your "no name" volume, open up the Disk Utility (in the Applications>Utilities folder). The "no name" volume will most likely show up there on the left side list of volumes but it will be "ghosted" because it is not mounted (you dismounted it when you dragged it off the sidebar in the finder). Click on it and then click the mount button at the top.

It's been a few days since I posted and the icon for "no name" still doesn't show up in the sidebar. It does show up in disk utilities , not sure how to get it to appear back on the sidebar.

All you did was to delete the alias in the sidebar. To retrieve it, just go to your desktop, where a volume called No Name should be, and drag the icon from the desktop back to the sidebar, that should fix it. Or you could restart your machine, that should also repair it.

Make sure your finder preferences show the volumes

Make sure your finder preferences show the volumes

As mentioned, the sidebar is a bunch of aliases. Once you mount the no name drive if it's not showing up on the desktop (where you can then drag it to the sidebar and create a new alias), you might have your "hard drives" on desktop turned off in the finder preferences.

Go to finder preferences, under the "General" icon, "Show these items on the Desktop" should have hard disks checked on.

Once that is clicked on, you should be able to see no name.
