Wow.

I am simultaneously super happy... and really sad... What a great emotional ending... would have liked some more answers.. but... I'll live

thoughts?

Similar. For a second I was super pissed, but then I was like, you know this is ultimately more emotional and powerful.

Sorry I'm so vague, but I'd hate to spoil anything.

In my opinion, that was, without a doubt, the worst finale in television history.

But no surprise there. The last two seasons of the show were terrible.

The writers basically realized that they weren't smart enough to resolve all of the mysteries they had set-up during the first four seasons of the show, so they decided to end the show with a giant a smoke-screen.

The finale made the whole show irrelevant.

I've never seen lost, but for what I'm reading on the web this is the most sided ending. There is the people that liked it and the people that really hated it....... and then those that have never watched it....

I was totally satisfied with the ending. Emotionally powerful without being heavy handed.

At the same time I understand why some people wouldn't feel any resolution with the story.

Hummm... well, it didn't quite do it for me...but it is what it was. A little too soap opera for me. I guessed this ending 2 years ago and feel it was just too easy. Still loved the show but nothing can touch the M*A*S*H finale in my book!
(not even Dallas or The Bob Newhart Show)

How did it make the whole show irrelevant? That makes no sense at all.

I think what he's trying to say is that the whole series (as we find out) was really all about Jack's journey through limbo and him dealing with his personal demons...and finally letting go. So, in the end, all the other characters really didn't matter, it was all about Jack. (IMHO)

Jack was alive until the very end of the series. How was he in limbo? He was only in limbo in the alternate timeline. Which only began in Season 6

Exactly. Sorry but I didn't want to still be theorizing after this ending. The central mystery behind the show was "what the hell is this weird island we're stuck on?". Here we are and we're still grasping at straws. For other shows an emotional, open end wouldn't feel so disappointing to me. This one I wanted answers.

If you take out all the overcranked shots the episode would have run about 15 minutes.

Great series but I thought they took the easy way out.

I would've loved more answers as well, BUT how do you answer some of the questions satisfactorily?

Sample theoretical dialogue:
"What is this weird island?"
"Well it's a magical fcking island."
"Well how is it magic?"
"Are you serious, you want me to explain magic? If I could explain magic, it wouldn't be fcking magic, would it?"

Everyone was killed in the original crash of flight 815... there were no survivors. Jack needed to work through his problems before he could move on...and let go.

The island, everyone & everything on it was all Jack. It was Jack's test to find his way into the 'light'. :love4:

Too much stuff happened that didn't involve Jack at all for that to make any sense.

Agreed.

While the show seemed to centralize around Jack in our eyes, it definitely involved others.

I still have a few questions:

What did Hurley have to protect the island from?

Where was Shannon on the "flash sideways" plane? She wasn't with Boone, and didn't get on the plane apparently. It sure wasn't because she was alive.

And what the heck does "You all everybody" mean?

Um, no. This is clearly not the case. You're saying that everyone in the church died in the crash, never met, and yet they all had to meet in the church because "their time on the island was the most important time of their lives." If they died in the crash, they wouldn't have had any "time on the island."

They set themselves up for it. That was the entire hook of the show. And they spent considerable time with characters who were examining the island in a very scientific way. Not as magic. To not even attempt to answer it is like having Sherlock Holmes throw his hands up at the end of a mystery and say, "I don't f*ckin' know who did it! I'm going home."

Well, they explained the essence of it. The light in the center of the island. They just didn't go into detail of explaining exactly what it was or how it worked. But my question, once again, how could they?

But I wouldn't say they threw their hands up. Their answer might have been arguably lame and simplistic, but they did give us something.

The more I think about the more I think they chose the worst possible ending. If they had just said the entire thing was purgatory I wouldn't have liked it but the whole series would at least make some sense. Doing this thing where some of it was maybe limbo and some of it was maybe real is half assed.
