losing faith in gh2's 24p

after seeing and shooting hours of footage, i don't see how you could comfortably view it on any kind of screen unless the shots are 100% static. any moving shot strobes and judders, making you (or rather me and others) feel uneasy. you can't blame it on the the refresh rate or the (not at all really) slow frame rate. it's in the processing, and it's present in every camera movement.

do you cover it as much as possible in post? shoot exclusively locked down? hope nobody notices? hope a hack improves on it?

The reason i dont use 24P is that my editing system puts a slight judder on the footage, when played direct from GH2 or from file on my pc it looks a lot better as long as its tripod fimed any pans are slow and kept to minimum.

Try using a slower shutter speed, like 30.

I've checked the GH2s 24p output and can't find anything fundamentally wrong with it... The time between frames is perfectly equal, so it's not that.

If the strobing that people are seeing is really there, and if it's anything I think it could only be one of these...

1) The image in 24p is so sharp and crisp that the difference between frames is far more stark than we're used to, so it appears strobier. Perhaps solvable by using a soft lens and turning in-camera sharpening right down.
2) There's no frame ghosting down to noise reduction, so each image is more unique and contains less of any previous or after frame's data.
3) The camera is miscalculating shutter speed. Wouldn't be hard to test by mounting another camera on top and panning. Should be solvable by selecting a slower shutter speed, so as to perhaps hit the shutter speed you actually want.

So... I hope somebody out there can test #3) with a camera mounted on top. Would be VERY interesting to finally get to the bottom of the mysterious strobing.

Definitely option no. 1
This extra judder will be gone by the time you'll get to theater screening.
I was more worried about it than you guys, but after a lot of testings,
I am sure that I can edit on avid without judder, and screen the final footage
Without judder. it won't effect the final output.

Btw- are we witnessing the birth of yet another 24p thread?
i'm so exited ;)
