Los Angeles DVX group meeting

Re: Los Angeles DVX group meeting

"We should write up some kind of a schedule of what we are going to do, so that we can see about how long it would take.  Any body have any suggestions?"

Some thoughts:

Seems like it'd be about 2 1/2-3 hours. I went to LA indie film group and that seemed about right. Some suggestions: 30 minutes introductions going around the room, maybe 15-30 minutes of member screenings, maybe a product demo (ex: if anyone had the mini35 or something cool like that) or some guest speaker, or maybe announcements of member projects coming up (crew calls, etc), and of course enough time to just chill and meet people and talk.

Re: Los Angeles DVX group meeting

Wait a sec. You didn't include time for Rush to raffle off a couple of brand new dvx 100s!! kidding.

Re: Los Angeles DVX group meeting

EVS is closed on weekends
so it's either a friday night ( but they'll be wanting to go home)
or on the weekend elsewhere

Jim, you mean you won't fly in? ;D I will have someone do up a report for anyone unable to attend. ;) Any volunteers to take minutes?

That sounds just about right to me. I talked to the sales manager and she said she would never support a meeting like that.

Unless EVS springs for a buffet and music for the first DVXuser/EVS meeting. ;) I tried to talk her out of it, but she was set on it, and she managed to convince the owners it would be a cool gig. I guess she turned it into a party.... I told her pro's don't wanna come over and eat free food and listen to a DJ, they wanna talk tech and stuff. She said ya'll can talk tech while yer eating. I dunno about that. What do you guys think? :D Probably would have to be a Saturday.

Manager said she could do a Saturday perhaps if that's what we all come to agreement about. :)

Re: Los Angeles DVX group meeting

Whatever date you guys set is fine by me.  Really looking foreward to this.  Is there anyone here that would need to try to set a date to fit thier Schedual?

-I was thinking that it would be cool to set it up sometime around the Videomaker EXPO (which is pretty soon) - Feb 3-5 at the Pasadena convention center.  What do ya guys think?

Re: Los Angeles DVX group meeting

If we're meeting on Feb 5th then I vote for later in the day (late afternoon) or even early in the day so some of us can go check out the videomaker expo. Show floor hours are from 10am-4pm.

Maybe we should shoot for the Saturday after the expo instead, Feb. 12.

Re: Los Angeles DVX group meeting

Rush, that's perfect! Thank you for this, I guess I know where I'll be buying the new 16:9 DVX...
Any time Saturday is great for me.

Re: Los Angeles DVX group meeting

We should have everyone vote on a timeslot. I'm coming from the High Desert (nearly 2 hours away), so if it starts around 2-3 p.m., then that means I'm driving back in rush hour traffic. Does this effect anyone else?

My vote would be around 12 noon? but we should hear everybodie's so we can get whats good for the most people.

Re: Los Angeles DVX group meeting

BTW: I think Feb. 12th is a good day for the first one. Gives just enough time for everyone to prepare.

Re: Los Angeles DVX group meeting

Here are a couple of thought:

I think Saturday is best – especially if we have it at EVS and they are closed [if EVS doesn’t mind] It might be very difficult to have it there while their open and if we do it on a work day after they close traffic will suck.

We should start developing an agenda – is this just a warm and fuzzy get together or is there an opportunity to arrange for presentations from Serious Magic or Panasonic etc.. If we had an agenda, it might be easier for vendors to decide if they want to participate.

If we set a date we need to get a serious head count, so EVS can plan accordingly.

I would also suggest that we break the user meeting into two segments, the first part more of a social interaction with an opportunity for vendors to demonstrate their products and for all of us to have a casual discussion. The second part should be a little more about the business of creating a real user group, which could take an hour or so.

Just some thoughts. ::)

Re: Los Angeles DVX group meeting

As far as the Videomaker expo goes. I went to it last year and it was very very small. You can walk the floor in less than 30 minutes.

Re: Los Angeles DVX group meeting

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday!!!! I'm going to the Expo on the 5th, I think the 12th (or later) would be better. A 4:00pm to 7:00pm time slot sounds good. Let's make it happen!!!

Re: Los Angeles DVX group meeting

Hi guys, after the sales manager looked at the size of our interior space at EVS, she decided there is no way to fit that many people there. We had 50 people over for the Xmas party, and even then we had to put people on 6-foot stilts. ;D So she got an offsite location, for Feb.11th. Apparently the location is not available the 12th, and neither are some of our people. So would the 11th (Friday) be okay? We are working out last minute details as far as time, and locking in the catering and all that. I hope that doesn't inconvenience a lot of folks. Let me know... ;)

Re: Los Angeles DVX group meeting

what time
and where is it at?
traffic on the 110 north to the 5 is a beoch!!!
I'll tell my supervisor to let me get off early.

EVS: bring some stuff at least to look at
you never know

;D ;D ;D ;D

aaight
