loosing faith!

im starting to loose faith in my DVX 100. it all started when i got a 52" Plasma screen. I shoot a lot of weddings, most of the time i use the DVX but sometimes i use a Sony Z1. Ive started to see a real difference with the Z1, image is sharper and clearer. I find when footage is tranferred to a dvd and shown on a large screen the DVX cant hold an image as good as a Z1, esp with faces and wide shots. Anyone agree or care to comment?

itsnt the z1 a high def camera? why compare it with the dvx in terms or sharpness...especially on a 52 incher. Also depending on how u encode and authour that dvd it can increase or decrease quality. I had wack authoring program and it ruined my encoding. I took that same encoded file over a friend and let him author it with encore...and was blown away. but i'm not viewing on a 52 inch so i duno.

watch ur footage straight from the tape on the tv and see how it looks.

It is a high def cam but im using it in DV Cam mode (SD) Im authoring both DVDs using IDVD so i don think thats the problem...

I had heard these horror stories about how the DVX shows on wide screen LCD'/HDTV's, so I ran some tests in squeeze mode & burned a couple of DVD'S. The first was squeeze mode & it filled the screen quite nicely ( I think it was a 46", maybe a 52" not sure).

The second was done in standard 4:3 & as suspected only filed the centre of the screen.

Both images were sharp & held up as far as looks go when being compared to displaying them on a standard crt 4:3 TV (with exception to the sqeezed footage, that was squished as expected).

As Jambredz mentioned, encoding on final output is key. If that is not done properly, your end result will not be satisfactory.

Just my 2 cents

I saw some DVX footage on a widescreen(46", I think) straight from the camera and it looked great. I shot it in Letterbox and the clips filled up the screen.
