"On The Lot" tonight

Seriously, to echo the very first post...I feel my time was better spent in an edit tonite than watching that trainwreck. Thank God for DVR and fast forwarding.

Carrie Fisher needs to expand her vocabulary beyond "it's really well made."

Maybe Simon Cowell can be persuaded to guest-judge, that would improve ratings.

that wouldnt be able to handle somebody like Simon. the show would be over in one week, lol.

i'm also glad for DVR.....i cant imagine watching this on regular tv.

All I have to say is that musical was brilliant! Watched it several times... loved it... that alone was worth the hour... plus Michael Bay was a good guest judge!

You guys ARE aware that these are not new right? These were submission films. I loved the Indian girls short. Maybe some of you dont realize that it was a DOCUMENTARY, not a narrative. 5 days for a doc that had the best visuals of anything tonight is pretty impressive.

A few things:

1. The show's format is now even more horrendous. 5 films in one episode and then a week-long wait to see who gets eliminated? Give me a break.

2. What's with all these mediocre comedy shorts? Don't these contestants know how to do anything else? I hope someone puts a horror or suspense short on the table soon.

3. I didn't think the short about the family dinner was as bad as it was made out to be. Although it was unoriginal, it had some funny moments and I didn't even notice how tight most of the shots were while watching it at first. So, that didn't really bother me.

4. This show needs more judges like Michael Bay. At the start of the show, the host said something along the lines of how the contestants were competing to be the next Michael Bay. As the show went on, I'm sure Bay was hoping that wasn't true.

The film school girls film sucked. How was that in any way an example of good direction...if that is indeed what got her on the show.

Yea I pretty much knew right off the bat it was a doc and I still say it sucked butt. Just because it's a doc does not make it suck any less.

LOL... so true...

On the show:

I'll keep watching... but am sorely disappointed in the competition thus far...

It feels like a documentary but also incredibily scripted at the same time. So did she write a screenplay disguised a documentary or a documentary made like a movie? Either way, the whole thing was full of self-importance ("Ooo, it's about a gay guy, not just that but the guy is INDIAN!"). Sadly there was no thought-provoking insight or anything new for that matter. She mentioned something in interview about how she's taking a risk by showing something controversal. Unfortunately, she forgot that in order to be controversal people have to care about it. And the judges just eat it up (except Michael Bay, I could tell he was bore out of his mind).

some people are saying they broke into groups of 5 and directed these shorts and some people are saying these were their submission shorts....which one is it???????????

Sheesh, as a woman I am so disappointed in the girls of the show. Not only the contestants but the annoying host that can't read a telaprompter. If there is a next season I hope they don't do battle of the sexes. I did like the shots and angles of the documentary, but I thought she made the subject boring as he seem to repeat himself and state the obvious.
I think Michael Bay should take over the show completely. Judging, casting, directing. This thing needs a complete renovation.

I would like to know this as well. Wasn't the FX wizards submission film showing a guy with a rocket launcher taking out an alien spacecraft? I know that they've shown pieces of it once or twice.

Pretty sure that was his submission to get on the show. I guess we'll know the answer when we see his next film.

They also stated that these had to be shot in a week. I remember no such stipulation for submissions shorts.

Can anyone clear this up?

Mike

yeah it was a week. I had to make a short in a week before i could make the next round. only thing is their guidlines. like they give you topics you have to stay too like. "hidden treasure" "first time" "a loss disguised as a win" so yeah...

Seeing as how Michael Bay and the other cynical film makers picked the girls doc as the best of the night, I would have to say you are silly by saying it "sucked butt." Maybe you dont like it but you have no appreciation for the genre. It was visually the most intriguing and IMHO the best thing on the show last night. There are different styles of docs, this was more like 'The Kid Stays In the Picture" where it is someones story they are telling. It is not a verite, Pennebaker style doc.

These were films that were done as part of the submission process. These were not their original films but rather films they had to do as step 2 or 3. I know some people who made it to that part of the process. These were not new and not done this last week.

Great to know! Thanks for clearing that up.

Cheers,

Mike
