loose onboard mike head

Does anyone have any problems where the onboard mic is loose? I have also noticed that my start / stop button on my handle has stopped working too.

How loose is it? All of the ones I've used from my school were somewhat loose, if its really a problem, just wrap some black electrical tape around where the thing joins the handle really tightly and it will stay in place better. I've never had any issues with it though.
And have you checked the little lock switch to the right of the record button on the handle? It sounds stupid but I'd check that.

wow, i sure didn't check the lock switch. thanks! it fixed it. as far as the loose mic head, i think i might stop by the dealer and see if they can fix it. if not, maybe i will bet canon to check it out. looks like i might be sending it back for the defective handle strap ( as posted on this forum ).

thanks again for the fast reply!

No problem, but just how old is the camera? Canon charges a flat rate for all repairs on the XH A1 and probably on all of their other cameras as well, according to my TV teacher who actually sent out all 4 of our A1's over the summer, and the previous summer as well, to have a few things fixed on them. The first time he sent them, while they were under warranty, it was $250. The second time, when it wasn't under warranty, it was $500. And for what? The first time, the mike was broken off of a couple of them, hanging off the handle at 45 degrees only attached by the wiring probably, and the second time, the zoom rocker on the side of one of them broke and the screws for the mike holder were stripped on a few of them (not the tiny ones, but the one that actually closes the holder down).
The point is, if its under warranty, I'd send it back to Canon, but if not, I'd find someone whose somewhat local, but reputable.
