Looks like there is no DVCPRO HD support in Premiere Pro 2

I have no idea if this is an "official" Adobe document, but I cannot see DVCPRO HD listed as a Top New Feature. They only talk about capturing via Xena HS. Maybe it is still there, but not worth mentioning or something.

This was posted over at the Premiere Pro forum.

I actually like the new interface. It looks more like Vegas and less than FCP  Also Audition 2.0 is starting to look more like Acid.

If they really try to make PP2 more like Vegas, it might actually become useable. Especially with the tight AE7 integration.

And I really hope they also implement Vegas' "Preview on 2nd monitor" feature - that's essential to me.

Yes, disappointing for sure. Assuming the doc is official and final, it looks like Adobe has left DVCPRO support to third party add-ons that are rarely inexpensive. I wonder if the rush to incorporate Macromedia into it's product suites may have absorbed their internal resources.

Still, nothing is official yet and didn't HDV support in PPro came out in a rare free update? It's looking more and more like I will wait 6 months or more before jumping into HD and see how things shake out with NLE support on PC. There may be a Mac in my future.

considering its been at least a year and a half since the 1.5 upgrade (which they included HDV support via cineform freeby), and over 2 years since version 1.0 - I think this looks like a pretty poor upgrade.

I just dont know what to do now. Looks like a Mac might be in order. But that and a HVX????? ouch....

If it turns out that Adobe has failed to support the .mxf file format, I will certainly be moving on to a new platform. For me, I have no interest in switching to a Mac solution, so I may have an Avid in my future.

I think or at least hope Adobe would be smart enough to include it. I think if that document is official it’s not complete because that article gave far more info and what kind of release would it be on the 17th if they gave it all away.

I read the the Adobe .pdf and it seemed to say that all HD formats would be supported by the Aja Xena card.

"Native SD and HD support—Capture,
edit, and deliver full-resolution SD or
HD using native support for the Xena HS
real-time encoding card from AJA Video."

HDV is supported by the software alone.

Yeah - I have been hanging on the Adobe forums for a long while and this doc is one of the first official lists of features. Now, it lists the "top" features of PPro 2 - which we would assume that MXF & P2 would be a top feature. It might still be in there. I really like the new CC features and 10bit editing. DID YOU SEE THE OMF output option!!! About freaken time :)

Now I can uninstall the beta of automatic duck! PPro 2 has been rewritten to emphasize HD support - with the ovbious native HDV & AJA capture. What does it take for DVCproHD? Nothing. P2 doenst require capture and it seems to be a simple matter of implementing the DVCproHD codec and importing P2. I am not concerned if it doesnt "directly" support it since Mainconcept and cineform will really jump on this. For all we know, adobe may be waiting for the HVX to come out so that they can test it and implement it - like in the 1.5.1 release for HDV - in which the cineform option was better anyways :)

I am starting to deslike adobe's policy. First no information at all about the new PPRO version and now this. Not to mention that I learned more in this forums about v1.5 TRUE specs then in adobe's site. I just don't get it. We have a bunch of info about hvx and that was a year or more before it even came out. Whats that misticism about. Its a software upgrade not the second version of the Holy Bible. I am starting to look for other options. It's about time. (not to mention that for the first time I consider JVC as an option, something I never believed it will happen) I am confused... again...

Heeelp... did you see the System requirements ? P4 3.4ghz for HDV and dual Intel Xeon 2.8 ghz for HD... I hope it refers to the uncompressed signal :) We probably mast wait the oficial presentation.

Technically speaking, this announcement is not official and the contents of the documentation *could* of been compromised easily. We should wait for the official response (Monday the 16th) to make a clear judgement.

I agree. Looking at the Aja web site the Xena LS card supports DVCProHD. I didn't see the Xena HS card but I can't imagine it not supporting it.

You really freaked me out there when you said PP2.0 looked like Vegas.

Vegas is an incredibly powerful app, especially given its price, but man do I hate its interface. It feels so gimmicky and 'fisher-price' like that I have a hard time editing with it.

Vegas & PPro are both solid editing apps, but if I had to choose between the two I'd go PPro simply on account of the Vegas interface.
