I have been keeping an eye on the genius Mr Hudsons 7d magic lantern project and was getting worried about its progress thinking canon have made his job too difficult.

I have been reluctant to post any questions to him as I aint paying him (other than my small donation which would probably buy him a pot of coffee and some ciggies).

I would gladly send a nice 20 dollar donation for this type of feature. No problem with that. stops me from buying an H4N.
 
You should still get an H4N or an external audio device. One stereo mike isn't always going to cut it. Use the audio recorder and send it into the 7D. Monitor it with a splitter from the Shack.

Why? I'm going to use my JuicedLink preamp mixer and save $350. Will save me having to sync up in post. All my other cameras had great audio as long as they didn't use AGC, I don't know why the 7D should be any different.

When I record dialog I do it with a mono boom mic.
 
If you have a JuicedLink preamp mixer then problem is solved. The juicelink also cost around $300. I also record dialog with a mono boom mike.
 
I'm ok with the Zoom H4n - I like being able to put my sound guy right next to the action without having to run a cable back to the camera.

No need. I have the best of the best SD302 mixer. With those pre amps, limiters, running into the cam, I will have more then enough. So yeah, I definitely want this sucker to get out fast! Have a new web-series to shoot soon and it would greatly benefit from having this, that's for sure.

Wish there was an ETA.
 
not sure about any update, but there is a reference to the 7d in that interview on the news feed for the magic lantern site..
he says something like "if we manage to" cant remember exactly but there is a hint of negative in the statement.

in here he sounds quite optimistic, and I think it's pretty recent.

EDIT: after listening to all the stuff he has planned for the 5D and 7D I have come to the conclusion that he has God-like powers and probably is some kind of mutant that can talk to machines like that kid in Heroes. If this is true it has implications beyond these cameras and if he gets too powerful we may have to find another mutant to counter his abilities.

Well that's just silly because there IS NO INJECTION! You have obviously been watching too many Sci Fi movies and can't tell the differance between reality and fantasy. Now my point is we may have to find someone with natural mutant abilities that offset other abilities.
 
You have obviously missed episode 302! the injection does exist! Mohinder Suresh has powers! And so shall I!
