Looking to buy my next prime lens, anywhere between 24-35mm for under $500.

What do you guys recommend?

So far I only own a Canon 50mm 1.4

What would be your next lens you'd buy if you wanted to go wider?

Thanks everyone.

Buy the Sigma 30mm 1.4. or the 24mm or 20mm 1.8 if your want something wider and if your willing to spend another few bucks.

I'm assuming that your using this for video? Check out this test someone did with the 30mm, http://vimeo.com/17026870

Since I use a 7D with the crop factor, I want something wider so I am going to buy the 20mm 1.8 next.

Assuming you want a fast lens...

Fitting in your budget is the Sigma 30mm f1.4 (normal on the 7D), Canon 28mm f1.8 (normal), Nikon 28mm f1.4 f-mount with fotodiox adapter on ebay.

Each of these lenses is prefered by lots of different people here. I personally like the Canon. If you do photography as well, get the Canon, no question. The Nikon would be older and subject to flares, but would have a pretty, vintage look.

It's not as fast but you could look at the Leitz 24mm f/2.8. S/H they usually go for under your budget point and is a fabulous lens. The two things holding me back are that it won't work on a 5D (Which I have for stills) and that I've pretty well blown my budget already.

My Canon 24mm f2.8 keeps getting pulled out of the bag. Not that expensive and sharp enough wide open for video work.
The next sharp bargain for me will be the canon 85mm 1.8. I know it's close to the 50mm view, but a whole new way of looking at things.

I went completely crazy and got the Canon 24 F1.4L II, but you don't have to go that far. All of the lenses above are great choices. The following examples are from stills taken on my 60D. You should be able to get a similar look with some of the other fast primes mentioned above.
