looking or a tripod recommendation...A1 + Brevis + Marshall = heavy

So I have all these goodies and now I need a solid tripod to handle it all.

I was looking at a few of the Bogen/Manfrotto kits on B&H.

Anybody got a good recommendation? My budget is around $1000.

check out the new 503hdv, it has three counter blance mode. I think that mixing it with the 525 legs should be good enough.

I notice a lot of people in my category of weight end up with the 503 or the 516, with the 516 guys saying it was worth the extra money.

So I'd say I'm specifically looking for the feedback from the 516 camp and I guess I just need a good set of legs.

Anybody like the little poor man dolly wheels you can buy for these tripods? I've used them before and on hard wood floors or the like, they're pretty damn good. I'm shooting a film this fall on hard wood flooring, so I think I'd like to package my tripod with one of those.

I have the 516 and I love it although I haven't used the 503 so I can't give you a comparison. I've even put a DV500 on there which is about 11lbs and it's still smooth as silk. I do recommend you get a better set of leg than the 3046 though. Believe it or not it's just too light and sometimes when I do panning I over did it and jerk the entire stick off the ground.

errr 11 pounds? With the A1, Brevis, Rails, a 105mm lens, the Marshall + battery, and the Noga arm, I figure I'm around 20 pounds at least.

I also use the 519 head for my A1 & wdr35pro -combo and I love its fully adjustable counterbalancing system. I wouldn't buy the 503 because its counter balance spring is fixed and non adjustable = you'll have problems balancing your setup.

True, but with the 503 you'd still be able to balance simply by positioning the plate forward or backward. Or would this not be sufficient? I just bought the 503 and it's a really nice head for the price.

That said, it's only listed as supporting 13.5 lbs. Are you sure your setup totals 20lbs??? (I don't know how much the rails, noga arm or the marshall you're using weighs).

Positioning the plate forwards and backwards won't give you the same result than adjusting the counter balance spring. When the setup is properly counter balanced, you can let your hands of the tripod and it will always leave to that position.

edit: Sure the new 503hdv will give you those three different counter balance setups, but what if none of those isn't the right one for your rig? Would you like to hang some weights on your camera :D

I was exaggerating a bit, I'm probably at around 14 pounds right now depending on what lens I've mounted.

Thanks to recommendations from Noel and others, I went with the 516 head, the 75mm ball leveler, and for sticks, I went with the Miller SOLO DV carbon-fiber stage II set. All of it from B&H with a carrying case for $1300.

I think I'll be very happy.
