Looking for Video head for GH1

Hi

I have a gitzo 1228, and I need a good and lightweight video head for the gh1 and maybe for my sony vx2100 (but the first choice is the gh1)

I don't want to buy a tripod, only a head.

Thanks for any info.

bogen 701hdv is perfect for the gh1.
i use it with my hmc150 as part of my lightweight setup and love it.
lighter and smaller than the giant 501hdv, and cheaper, but just as buttery smooth!

I honestly thought by the title the poster was seeking:

1) A video tape head as in the magnetic thing that tapes travel across,
2) A video guru for some advice, or
3) Something totally inappropriate for this forum!

My better instincts tell me to let this go, but I think my nature is to always try and help and you seem to need help so here goes...

First off, I have to reiterate that others have kindly told you to search the GH1 hardware section. There have been plenty of discussions related to tripods and the GH1. Ultimately your choice of tripod head will be personal, based on your specific needs, budget and product availability.

I have found most regular posters in this forum to be extremely helpful. Yes, we kid around now and then, and I'm sorry you found my (admittedly lame) attempt at humor off-putting. But don't expect most people to offer you help after you ignore their suggestions then attack them with sarcastic language like "Now its better?". That being said, here are my thoughts. Take them for what they are worth, and please don't respond negatively again.

First off, your biggest problem is limiting yourself to still photo legs like the Gitzo. If you're determined to keep them, it seems like the best solution would be to get a matching head from Gitzo that can take the heavier load of the VX2100. Double check with your vendor, but this looks like a good match:

If you plan to primarily shoot video on this support system (on the GH1 and the Sony video camera), I would suggest geting a bowl-mount type system that allows for rapid leveling. I have not used this one, but it seems like a good fit.

You could even sell the Gitzo legs to a still photographer, which could help defer the cost of a video tripod system. I have used something like this for years:

I use it with a GH1 and have used it with heavier cameras like the VX1000 (predecessor to the VX2100) and the Panasonic HMC-150. It's not as solid as a bigger tripod, but it's light, works fine and can be leveled quickly due to it's bowl-mount style. And it's very inexpensive.

That's all the research I can do for you at this point. Again, search the hardware forum or, even better, use Google. There's no single answer to your question. If you want to know something specific like "How do I shoot on the GH1 without the kit lens" or "How do I change the parameters of the Smooth setting"? you'd have an answer in minutes. What you are asking, however, can't be answered with a simple response. Don't blame the forums or the other posters for that.

Hope that helps.
Ron

Thanks, thats help.

Why negative response? I changed the title and ask if its better. Nothing negative.

I edit my response to be more polite.

So I asked in the wrong forum, people are making mistakes.
I asked if it can be move to the correct forum, what else can I do?

:)

Thanks for your help!

Seriously, hope that was helpful. Also, seriously, the smiley faces make a big difference!

Yes you are right, I should smile more :)

Not always I success in expressing myself in forums.

1. It was very helpful, I am thinking about the 701 or 501
2. I am a still photographer most of the time, so I need this tripod.
3. The reason I asked (even after I searched) cause I wanted to know if someone with the same tripod use a good head. This way I found the stills head (Markins ball head), from people that use the gitzo 1228 and use this head too.
4. How can I move this thread to be in the appropriate forum?

Thanks,
Ady.
