Looking for tips from experienced 5D Mark II shooters.

Thinking of renting a 5D Mark II for my next short film. I've been shooting on the HVX200 for a while.

Are there any primer threads out there to use as a starting point? I've heard of the jello effect issues with whip pans and action type shots. Anything else I need to look out for?

Thanks in advance.

Watch out for moire (window blinds, patterned shirts, etc...). Just because you CAN shoot in really low light doesn't mean you should. Light it well and shoot mostly in the 5.6 aperture range. Go lower when want it for effect, not all the time. Use a monitor, makes focus and framing much easier.

Throw magic lantern on it, zebras and peaking can be a lifesaver.

I just put Magic Lantern onto my 5D. The added features are really, really good. But it's a lot to absorb. I don't know if I'd tack that onto the process of getting to know the camera in general - unless you've got a full day or two to really dig your heels in and play around.

An external monitor, like the SmallHD DP6 will help drastically with getting what you need.

If you've got a few friends who shoot with Canon DSLR's - I'd give them a shout and see if they can sit down and give you a run down of the menu and functions. As far as I know most of the Canon DSLR's have a very similar menu system.

If you use a monitor with false color (like the DP-6) and don't use the camera audio for more than a reference track (which is all it should be anyway) never found any usefulness in Magic Lantern.
