GH2 Looking for tablet that can playback native GH2 files

Hey guys, I'm looking for a tablet PC that can playback my GH2 native MTS files without having to convert it to another format. Anyone have recommendations? It's a bummer that none have HDMI input to use as an external monitor so this would be the next best thing.

None of them play AVCHD natively (AFAIK). For now we are stuck with converting. The number one converter out there is MoboPlayer. I am hoping someone comes up with a decent native playback option as well. I just picked up the ASUS Transformer 201 with a quad core processor and nVidia graphics chip. This thing is screaming fast. If anything could handle AVCHD this thing surely will. But....no app yet.

I was looking at that Transformer 201 too! So, it can't playback the MTS files? I thought that the MoboPlayer could do it but it ends up converting them?

I tried playing native mts on a tegra 2 and its choppy. Id like to try it on the tegra 3...

Ian, have you tried opening mts with moboplayer trough software codec?

I was about to get the TF201 but saw that they are coming out with a souped up version the TF700 which will be 1920X1080 native and a bit quicker.. maybe it'll play the native files? Should be out in a couple months.

well if the low resolution t201 one cant, i dont see why this would. (but id like to have it tested out first!) although that 1920 x 1080 is sweeeeet.
i just wish theres a hdmi IN on it hahaha

Me too! I'm not sure it's worth waiting for the new model since they're always out of stock, which means an even longer wait.Someone needs to try it on a TF201 and see if it works without stuttering. Please!

An update .. I found and bought a TF201 Transformer Prime from my local Staples and after going through a bunch of video players, finally found one that worked. The Dice Player plays native MTS files flawlessly. I tried MX Player, BS Player and Mobo Player and they all had the same issue - HW Decoder played fine but no sound. I tried the software decoder on those and sound returned but playback was extremely jerky so it ended up out of synch. Dice Player has none of those issues when choose Default. I'm very happy today and will buy the keyboard too so I can get the SD card slot!

The VLC Player folks are cooking up a version for Android systems. ( their VLC Player for PC will play native MTS files, so there's a chance their Android version will too )

That is great news about VLC! On my PC, it was always the least taxing of the players. At least i have something working in the meantime.

My iPad2 will play native GH2 MTS files with BUZZ player. AVPlayer will as well.

The iPad will only support 720p on it's own.

The only problem here, is how to get the file onto the iPad - you cannot do it via the Camera Connector Kit. I had to copy my files to the network, and then grab it off the network.

Bummer about the iPad as I read about this too. The proprietary nature of Apple products can be a PITA sometimes.

Update: Latest Dice Player version breaks the ability to play MTS files natively. Major bummer. I dropped an email to the developer to let him know. I really wish I could revert to the previous version as it worked perfectly. :(ETA: I found a link to an older version (1.8.2) which I downloaded and replaced this newest version (1.8.8) and it started working again!ETA: latest version.posted 13 Feb (1.8.9) fixed the issue.

Hey guys. Thanks for the recommendation of Dice Player. I tried playing .MTS files as a test on my Galaxy Nexus and it was choppy (quite choppy) in both MX Player and the VLC beta. Dice Player took a second to get the video going well, but after a couple of seconds, it was completely smooth. So if my GNex can do it, then I think any Tegra 2 or 3 should do it just fine.

So I'd like a tablet with full size SD, full size USB (for pulling up files on a harddrive or getting teleprompter scripts from a client), and any size HDMI (for presentation, big screen playback, or Netflix).

Any suggestions that meet those requirements? The Toshiba Thrive would work. I'd prefer something newer, though. Thanks!

Update: I tried the Acer A200 and it was not fast enough to play the files using Dice Player. The Tegra 2 is just not fast enough, so a Tegra 3 is necessary. I took the Acer back and got a Toshiba Excite 10 (NOT the LE version, but the newer "Excite 10"). It plays it just fine. It also has a full size SD card slot, so you can just pop the card in and play from it. And if you need to get in contact with the Dice Player app developer, he is very prompt and he even downloaded a file that I provided from my camera to see how it plays. Very good service, so I highly recommend the app.

Brandon,

You posted this the same day I went out to try the acer2... Bummer on it...

Trying the tegra3 processor and we'll see... Different model then the one you posted so I'll let everyone know.
