Looking for some recommendation on some lenses for a shot.

I have this 1 shot where I will be shooting an Artist on top of a building so I would want something wide to capture the sense of space. Now the other shot would be on the ground shooting up towards the person on a building.

This building is about 5 stories high (50-60ft). I would like to capture the artists throwing something ( a Diary) from the top of the building onto the ground.

Which is the best way to record this scene?

I am thinking something wide like a Tokina 11-16mm lens and then maybe something like a 100mm lens on a tripod pointing up and then tilt up/down as the object hits the ground?

Need some help here

thanks

The lens choices sound good. There are so many ways to do this shot...it's all a matter of opinion

1. The shot from below
2. The wide angle shot you mentioned....you could even do one shot behind/a bit above the artist showing what he's seeing (will give the audience the feeling he's feeling)
(Then Maybe a close up of the artists face and emotion/then a close up of the artist's hand holding the diary)
3. The diary shot could be done with several cuts...the actual throwing motion with a bit of a closer view, then the diary itself flying through the air, the view from above as it sails down, then the impact.

Thank you. I always get like this before a shoot. Your recommendation sound perfect. I like the idea of getting close and above from behind the artist to give a sense what he is seeing. A shot from the top then bottom showing both perspectives. This would be done early morning or when the sun is going down. So I have about a 30mins-1hr to get the shot. I think 100mm Is lens would work great. have you ever used the 100mm IS macro lens from Canon?

Want to rent a nice telephoto lens for this shot, thanks!!

Also I was thinking about filming the throwing of the book in 60fps for slow-motion as it is when the song is ending and feel it would give a nice feel.

Good call on the slow motion.
As far as the 100mm Canon....I haven't tried it. Hopefully where you rent can let you do a quick test to see if you'll have enough reach.
I have used a Tokina wide on a 50D....GREAT LENS...it's addictive.
