Looking for resources on editing sound

I'm shooting some mini-projects on my own with no crew and I just discovered that I suck at sound. I'm working out my recording issues, but I'd still like to learn more about editing sound in post.

I am using Audacity and I've figured out how to deal with ambient noise. But is it possible to reduce "room echo"? Or, is it possible to "add" room echo when needed?

How do I make a recording sound like it's from a telephone? If I'm using camera sound (AGC enabled) how do I deal with different levels?

That's the kind of stuff I want to learn. I found some "basic" tutorials on YouTube, but most of them are geared towards podcasters, not film makers.

And any recommendations for an online class on sound recording and editing for film makers?

Thanks!

Well first off try the stickies above. The Room echo, has also been covered a lot so a search should bring up a lot. Sort answer is your pretty much SOL. You deal with the AGC by not turning it on in the first place. Afterwords your pretty limited in fixes. All you can really do is use levels to try and reverse the damage a bit.

What you are asking takes years of experience and know-how, and you won't get the results you need with audacity. I agree with Noiz2. Read the stickies. The kind of stuff you are asking would be like sound designer saying " I need to make a movie like toy story but all I have to work with is Microsoft Paint". I would look at this as a learning experience, and next time think about hiring a sound person for production, and then post.
