FS7: looking for an all-in-one doku lens like the 18200

Or go with a smaller sensor, such as the Sony X70.

Very valid point. If I was doing a lot or solely Doc work I don't think the FS7 would be the camera of choice and I'd go with one of Sony's 1/2" compact cams.

Having said that, isn't Firmware V3.0 going to have an S16 centre crop so the FS7 with an S16 zoom could be quite a good match?

I own a set of 'good enough' modded Contax Zeiss glass that also has a ton of character and great resolution/coatings.

Ben I think you noted on another thread that your Contax lenses which have been modded to EF mount won't go on the Metabones speed booster. Can I ask is that just because of the aperture lever? Do you think if a lens had this operation (minus the Nikon mount obviously) it might go on the SB:

Get a S16mm Zoom. They're proper parfocal zooms, can be had for a reasonable price, and with their faster aperture, you'll find DoF is surprisingly comparable to using variable aperture stills zooms on S35mm.

I you can't afford to shell out $30-40k for a 19-90mm Fuji Cabrio, or the 17-120mm Canon, then S16mm glass really is your next best option.

If only Sony would push out firmware 3.0 to give the FS7 centre crop. Its supposed to come just no idea when.

yes it does exist.
It's the 18-200 or the 16-70 Zeiss or sth I might have missed. If there is nothing I have missed my question was: does AF on the 16-70 Zeiss work fast and proper enough. I had the 18-200 and it worked. Not fast not super sharp but it worked.

So how can you say the lens exists when you finish your sentence by essentially saying the 18-200 sucks? It does exist but not suitable for quality shooting if I read your comments correct.
I quite agree by the way.
But I feel your pain. I sooo miss my f-800 ENG lenses for the reasons you mention.
But take heart. If Sony does indeed release firmware allowing center cut, then with an adaptor we should be able to use our 2/3" glass and achieve a very acceptable 2k result.
How big, expense and light sucking these adapters are may prove to be a hinderance but I know lots of folks using this config on F5's with satisfactory results.
However as Morgan asserts, the only real option is making the jump to cinema grade zooms at $20k or better. They are huge and pricey but fast and 4k ready.
Perhaps at this juncture, it's your/our only viable option.

I had Leitax modded Contax glass and a few of them didn't fit on the Metabones Speedbooster with working iris so I guess any shaving or whatever of that lever would help. Personally I'd rather just use a different mount than drill into a bunch of vintage lenses.

They all fit absolutely great on my Commlite adapter and on my Camdiox dumb speedbooster.

I think those are the medium format lenses? The lenses I have are the C/Y mount. One attraction is that they are purely manual, so not that fussed about AF and electronic iris control.

Well there's no actual drilling or power tools involved, the lever is removed and could be reinstalled later if you wanted I guess. I have a mate who is a lens tech at a network who would probably do this for a 6 pack of beer, but it would only be worth it if the lens would fit on the Metabones Speed Booster. Like alot of people I guess I just want to simplify my lens changes and adapters.

Do you know anyone in the UK doing modding that won't break the bank?

I went down the Nikkor AIS route because the adapters have aperture control but I've always like the look of the Contax Zeiss and if I could get a set of declicked zooms and primes I might be interested in acquiring some.

Aperture in London on Charlotte St charge about £45 to declick the iris and insert a little felt in there to stop it moving from here you set it.

Best value 'proper' FF gears are the 3D printed ones ones from ebayer helicoptersean
