Looking for a short XLR Cable to mount mic to camera

I'm looking for a short 3-pin XLR cable to mount my shotgun mic to my DVX100b. But I have some questions about them.

First, should I go coiled or uncoiled? Coiled seems like it's better for keeping things neat, and also safety wise to avoid getting caught on something and having a potential disaster. But it also seems like it might be more prone to causing sound issues if it shakes too much, or bumps into the camera if you move around. Not sure how much of a concern this should be, though.

Second, since I'm getting this for my DVX100b, I'm noticing that angled connectors point toward the hand grip area. My worry is that it won't even properly connect to the bottom XLR connector on my camera, and that the top one would have it pushing against my hand. Has anyone used an angled connector on their DVX and run into this problem, or is it a non-issue?

Finally price wise, I'm noticing these things are anywhere from $5 to $50 and above. Is there a substantial quality difference here?

Also, can anyone recommend any specific cable that they've used and works well?

Do you mean an short cable to connect your mic to your camera? An XLR cable isn't going to do much for mounting... that's what a mic mount or shoe mount adapter would be for.

That said, all you need is a standard, 3' mic cable. Don't go super-cheap, as cheap cables are made with cheap parts and will probably break down on you in a short time. Also, don't waste your money on over-hyped nonsense like Monster Cables. If you're handy with a soldering iron, making your own can be cheaper: Neutrik connectors and cable like Mogami or Canare will be fine. Or, you can buy something like THIS.

As for the slack, I use a velcro cable tie to coil the excess cable and lash it to the camera's handle.

Yeah, I just meant connecting the mic to the camera. Anyway, I have no access nor ability with a soldering iron, so I was just looking to make my life easier and buy one.

That's ideally what I want, assuming the coils aren't an issue.

If they are, then I was thinking this:

What about the Angled input? Is that gonna interfere do you think?

Either will do. Personally, I do not like dealing with coiled cables for things like this... but that's me. I also find 3' to be a more versatile shorty than 1.5'. I'm also not a huge fan of the right-angle connectors coming off a camera-mounted mic. They stick out at awkward angles. Again, personal preference.

But either of the ones you lined will be fine.

I just have an 18" XLR F to M. The male end has an angled connecter. It is a little annoying when shooting handheld, but you can always rotate the mic a little. I used to have an XLR without the angle connector, but I left it at a shoot on accident. A friend was nice enough to give me the one I have now, but it has the angled connector. I don't coil mine, because it is just the right length to go from my shotgun to the XLR. Don't even bother using a longer cable.
