Looking for a mic for T2i

I'd go with either the Rode Stereo VideoMic or the Sennheiser MKE-400 for on-camera sound. I've used both and either would be a huge improvement over the built-in mic. Of course a dedicated recorder (Zoom, Tascam, etc.) would be an even better solution, but only you can decide what's right for your needs.

There is a line out off any mixer during a concert, use it. Of course T2i has AGC, so unless you are using a software hack or AGC disabler box the sound will be pretty much useless. BTW, most of AGC disabler boxes produce enough noise, that you can't use it anyway. I would record off the mixer with something like Zoom and then sync it with the footage. Shotgun on camera (if you are charging money) is simply not acceptable imo.

If you record of the mixing board make sure you have the cable to connect to your recording device. Usually they use 1/4" male, but I would also bring XLR.

For a few bucks, you can have all the cords you need.

All sound boards are different, as I've found out the hard way. Make sure to have a 1/4 to 1/4, XLR to XLR, an XLR splitter and XLR male-female converters. Just go on ebay or to a cheap electronics store, and buy as many combo XLR-1/4-RCA connectors as possible. I've used more than not.... especially for wedding stuff so the DJ doesn't have to un-hook.

I second this post.

Just when I think I have every connector combo possible, I find a soundboard with a weird setup. There are connector "kits" you can buy on eBay that have every possible combination.

agreed as well. i use a Rode NTG-2 with minijack/XLR adapter and battery on the T2i's or the NGT-2 on phantom on the XH A1's. we keep a bag of misc adapters, chargers, hex keys, memory cards and tools with us; learned that lesson.

keep in mind when recording a mix from the board, you may not always be getting a balanced overall mix. Sometimes the board is mainly pushing the vocals/acoustics/kick drum because the amps are loud enough in the room already.... so your board recording won't have much of the amps in it. Its always great to get the board, but if you want some options, try to get a bit of the room sound on a separate track as well, then mix those together.

What you're looking for is Adapt-a-Pak Audio Connectors

It has practically every combination in one convenient case.

When not plugged in the board, I also use a Rode NTG-2 or Sennheiser 416 on top of the camera. I connect to my 7D through a Juice Link adapter. Works well.

Nice! That looks like a sweet set. I can make out some of the adapters.... but I wish they had them all listed.

I always plug into the board, record the speaker, record shotgun, and lav. Crazy? Yes. But I'm a bit of an audio freak and always fear some type of static/interference will seep through. Never has. So I'm always left w/ 3-5 sources of audio. lol.
