Hi,
I'm looking for a light and compact matte box that could take 77mm filters. Basically I want to have a super small set up that could let me use circular filters and that can block light with top and side flags.
Any ideas?
I think all of the screw-on boxes with filter holders take square glass. Maybe you could work the 77's in with the adapter ring - you shouldn't get vignetting on an APS-C camera.
That would cover small & light, but would also add "slow and cumbersome".
I'd take a look at rubber screw-on hoods if you're stuck with screw-on filters - those are as light as anything's going to get. You're going to end up with some funky sandwich of stuff, all held on by a very fine and shallow threaded connection system. I know I'd find that really frustrating.
I have a 77mm adapter ring for mine. Works great. I think it kinda fits your needs. Assuming you don't wan to use screw on filters. With this one you hase 3.5" square filters. There are also circular ones like pola's
I use it with a couple of NDs, a pola and a few grad ND in my kit.
Works great for quick shoots and doesn't require a big rig to carry it all.
I'm selling as vocas on the forum that is the smallest matte box I've seen. Vocas has 3x3 filter tray that also takes series 9. not 77mm but pretty small. Comes with a 77mm clamp and the nun's knickers
