Does anyone have a pic of what the cam looks like with the MY35?

I hope this doesn't offend Mike in any way (just give me the word to strike the file if it does, Mike)

Here's a couple of shots with the My35 attached and one with a 105mm Nikkor on top..
It's a heavy lens and I thought it might snap the whole assembly off.. but it didn't. The My35 is some tough stuff. It's built "Dawson Tough".

Mike: is "My35" the official name, or what?

clip, grabs and shots here:

Tim, if you look again, I think you'll see a couple of pics of it. I saw two: One with the lens & all on it, the other with just the unit (a pic composited with three shots in it of the unit on the DVX100a).

Mike: let's hook-up for a story meeting when you're back.

Everybody else: Get excited about the my35.

(except for MCshyD): Already excited.

For anyone that's concerned about weight from these 35mm adapters, just get a set of rails. Cavision's got a nice looking (and well made) carbon fiber set of 15mm rods for less than $180. They've also got a lens mount/anchor, that's currently on back order, that I'll be adding soon. For now, it just rests on the rails.

When rack focusing, I've noticed if I use gaffer tape & wrap that unit down to the rails, it REALLY helps get some super steady focus pulling. When shooting, I also wrap my focus ring & zoom ... so nothing moves once I've focused onto the GG.

The pic beow is of waltind's camera on our Sci-Fi shoot (not showing any location/BG, so I think it's okay to show this), with the Letus35 and a Nikon 100mm lens resting on a set of Cavision rails.

Is there any comparisons between the MY35 and the Letus...Also, how much does the My35 run now?

Tim, the only way I know of ay GOOD comparisons would be to have all the adapters side-by side tested at the same time. That way lighting, subject, cameras, etc. are all the same.

I've got the Letus35, so if Mike Dawson, or anyone else wanted me to do side by sides, waltind (my production partner for our Sci-Fi short) and I could put our DVX100a's together & post comparisons.

I will say that externally, Mike's is a little sleeker looking. I also like the way it appears to cup around/over the focus ring. For the Letus35, you won't see the grain as you do in the My35, because the GG is vibrating (vs. spinning like in some other adapters). There's been question if this slight vibration may further soften the image, but jdanstan has come up with a pretty cool way to compensate for it, cranking up the camera's core detail, while setting it to normal matrix for less noise.

I also think Mike's may be a little bit less expensive. Like anything, I think there are always pro's & con's to every side/product.

I honestly don't have a bias at this point ... just happen to own the Letus35 as it was the first affordable adapter I could get my hands on the quickest before we had to shoot our Sci-Fi short. I also liked the fact that the manufacturer was in my neck of the woods, so I could save on shipping time as well.

Mike, if you'd like to have comparisons of the My35 up against the Letus35, shoot me a PM.

ive used the mini35 a few times, used the little ones here and there but not for production.. still some issues with them here and there.

lol, it was just a bad joke. sorry sorry. i was just kidding. it's edited.

yeah but anyone that is subscribed to the post gets your potty mouth email, before you edit. :engel017:

*blinks* woah.. reality check.. I have totally forgotten about that and got into a bad habit of spell-checking my posts with the edit tool ...oops.

This is what we should do....Mike-Do you think you'd be able to do something like this? Or maybe someone who has the MY35 live close to someone w/ a Letus. These two seem to be the best ones in that price range. Also, soon there will be the SG35 from the UK which is around 350 or so. It appears as if the My35 has the best exterior design, while the letus is the only one that flips. We should definately get some tests going.

I don't know who could be the tester?? not say my adapter will be better but you can see is the extra 100 for the letus is worth it. Me and some guys in toronto could do it if any one can supply the adapters?

Thanks every one

Tim, the Letus35 doesn't flip ... yet. Quyen's working on a version that will be SLIGHTLY longer to take care of ANY barrel distortion that you might notice if you had a straight edge (wall, etc.) near the outside of the glass, and it will also be a little larger all around as it will accomodate a series of four mirrors inside that will not only flip it right side up, but have it turned the correct way as well (flipped left/right).

I think this version will be around $150+ more, but it'd be WELL worth it, as it would be the only one on the market I'm aware of, short of the mini35, that could accomplish this. Also, the less you have to do in post (flipping images, etc.), the less degraded/compressed the final image should be.

He's still working on this, though, so for now you still have to flip the image like all other 35's.
