As i get closer to having enough mula to actually buy the HMC40, i wanted to ask a couple of members for help in terms of where they recommend to buy it from.

Ofcourse BH is a supper reputable store, but the have the cam at $1900+, so my question is, can anybody recommend or had any experience with any of the retailers that have the cam for 1700-1800?

Im getting a big sum of money but i am also trying to build a PC in order to be able to edit the footage.

I will be building based on an AMD PhenomII x6 1055T CPU and 8GB of DDR3 with a mid budget Video card like one of ATI's 5000 series (the pc will be used for other purposes also)

Taking that into consideration, i want to be able to atleast buy the HMC40 a good (fluid head?) tripod for under 2k, any recommendations in retailers and or brands and models of tripods or anything else i can get for the money would be appreciated.

Im going to used this cam and pc as a hobby that will enable me to adquire skills that at one point will enable me to make some MULA doing some music videos, commercials for local / regional merchants etc etc etc.

Thanks for all your help that you don't realize you have already given me in the for of text in this forum for me to read and educate myself a little bit. But now that the time to buy is closing in I need some HELP!!! lol

Any other details you need please let me know!

A word of warning here, IF you find the camera at a price much lower than places like B&H, watch out; chances are it's a rip-off.

Yes, there are "stores" that say, that they will "sell" you the camera for $100 --> $1,000 less than the price of B&H, BUT either (1) it's gray market product, (2) Used, (3) they ship the wrong model and refuse to fix it, (4) they charge extra for things, OR (5) some other thing that rips you off.

A simple inter net search with the phrase, "I got ripped off when I purchased a camera through" resulted in these interesting quotes"
My friend ordered an digital camera from camerasonic.com and they sent my friend a cd cleaner instead. This online stores phone number does not work and I doubt that if they would even respond to e-mails. My friends credit card have been charged already and there is no way for my friend to even complain. Can anyone here help or suggest a way. Thank you.

Hello, I'm new here, I got ripped off, with the camera scam.

Hi, is there any thing that can be done about the staff of a shop in los cris, i fell for the scam,,,
----------------------------------------------------
deltacamera.com is a ripoff. We ordered a camera and the next day they called me asking if I wanted to buy the battery for it and some accessories. They said they'd only charge me $100 more. Well come to find out all the accessories they wanted to sell me come with the camera from factory! I told them no to just send me the camera and they said it was on backorder and I wouldn't get it for 4-5 weeks.
----------------------------------------------------
DELTA CAMERA IS THE SAME AS ELITCAMERCORDERS/ALLSTARCAEMRA/ONTIMEDIGITAL AND CAMERAPROS I RECEIVED A PACKAGE FROM THEM WITH THE ADDRESS OF 1151 MCDONALD AVE AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE I FOUND OUT ITS THE SAME COMPANY BUYER BEWARE
----------------------------------------------------
I sure wish I had found this site BEFORE I sent money. There they are, right on the list. I feel like such a fool.
www.waredeal.com, took me for $486.USD. even sent false tracking information. NOW NOTHING.
----------------------------------------------------
Called to buy a camera a told them what I wanted. They "bait and switched" me to package that they said was only $19 more than my total already and would get additional items. It turns out they lied about what was in the package, lied about the shipping costs and when I tried to work it out with them they where rude and would not give me a fair settlement. I ended up paying $300 over what the value of the package they gave me. Stay away!!!!! Bad people!!!!!!

Now Bob i have always done a little "*company.com* scam" search and see what i find and depending on that i do a BBB search also.

Since i have seen a couple of places with the cam totaling around 1799-1899 (1799 gives me 200 dollars to put into a tripod i guess) i was just wondering other members experiences with other places beside BH that seems to have the highest price for the cam.

And Bob, what tripod you use or would recommend me to look at. I was looking at those and saw some products i liked from Manfrodo? I would like a nice fluid tripod, that i can do some nice smooth pans, but on a budget i guess. I am guessing less than 250 for the whole tripod if bought separately.

BTW

After watching some of the videos posted in here about the software that comes with the camcorder, I am leaning to use that for a while instead of investing in PproCS4, because of my PC being for other uses than just editing videos at this moment and i would be able to get "better performance" with an ATI card than CS4 working with AVCHD.

Planned video card purchase is an ATI HD5000 series lower than the 5700 series depending on pricing of course =)

I appreciate the link, but I'm no newbie PC person, just in camcorders. jajaja been around the net a while, but online store rating sites is not what I'm looking for.

I was looking more for good and bad experiences of the members with whatever online store they bought their equipment with.

Nexttag, resellerratings.com and all the others are ok. but you usually post something online when there is something bad to say. That's why i want to see where you guys bought your stuff so i can see if it's worth it for me to buy my stuff in there too =)

Thanks again.

I use B&H for all my big purchases. I've never had any problems.

I do have this to say: Never order anything from 47th St. Photo with 2-day shipping, because they won't ship it out until the day after they receive it, even if you placed the order overnight.

The saying goes "If it is too good to be true it probably is" applies here. Save yourself the headache and buy from a reputable seller.

I've never been disappointed with B&H! It looks like B&H doesn't currently have them in stock at the moment though. I'd still go with them though!

B&H is what it looks like i'll be having to go with. I still have a good month or so before purchase.

Question? When looking at tripods for doing smooth panning and maybe some shooting on rougher terrain ie. park or so, what can i take a look at, or what do i take a look at.

I have seen mini fluid heads, fluid heads, tripods that are all in one (legs+head) amongst other combination's. What i would look at, is there a site that regularly reviews this type of equipment?

If i go with B&H most-likely i will only be able to buy the hmc40 and the nicest tripod with head at around $200.00

Any ideas on that end? what you use? why you like it? why you don't? *tripod*

BTW thanks for the ideas, and suggestions.
