Long term Work Flow

I'm spending the next 18 months shooting footage for a feature documentary.

My current equipment is as follows - Shooting onto two 8gb cards which I then transfer to a 3.5inch hardrive via my MacBook Pro. (the problem being I can't use the harddrives in the field as there not bus powered)

I'm looking at investing in some more hard drives and thinking of operating in the following manner - Having several bus powered notebook drives to transfer the footage to in the field. Then backing these up on a second lot of high capacity drives.

Is this a good plan? and can anyone recommend a good type of high capacity drive?

Cheers

Ryan

I use Firelite Firewire 800 drives in the field and they work great. I then dump to large external hard drives back at base camp.

If I have time, I burn the most important P2 cards to DVD's for extra protection.

PLEASE remember that setting everything up to transfer in the senario you suggest and then packing it all securely away can be a REAL pain in the ar*e! doubley especially if your on the move! I speaketh with experience :(

I offload to the internal drive in the field, then after the day's shoot, I connect an external drive and copy the files to it.

This is our method also. Internal Laptop drive. Transfer when we get back to the studio.
