long interview?

so whats the solution for doing a long interview?
i understand FCP cant do a live capture with timecode or am i wrong?
do i have to do it as a "uncontrollable device"?

if anyone has any ideas please fill me in exactly how its done, every last setting from computer to camera.
this would be much appreciated.
