Lolz at my own video

Hi All,

I hired a DVX100a last year to shoot a short video for a project in my final year of secondary education. I was 17 when shooting and 18 while editing.

I thought I would post it up here (even though it is almost a year late) just to get some comments on what people think of the film and how I used the DVX for the first time.

Admittedly you will notice bad green screen work, and I have had no tuition in regards to lighting or most areas of video production. With that in mind, take it for what it is and try to enjoy it ;)

(Sorry for Mac users out there that detest wmv's)

Regards,
Brad

WATCH THIS PEOPLE !

That was very well made, my friend. Excellent shot choices, fantastic score, good acting, decent effects, decent camera movements, and horrible greenscreen work ;)

This goes to show how important a good score, and sound effects, really are. I think it held the peice together well.

Saw your reflection in the window a couple of times, which is a big "no, no", but whatever.

What were you using to achieve all that camera movement??

p.s. Your not getting any responses because of the way you titled (and described) what this is. No one will even give it a try if it's titled "laugh at my home video", which is essentially what we see when we read your title. I'll get it started for ya...

Enjoyable, nice look to it. Interesting story. The voice over was just a bit soft. Nice shots though, and great sound effects. Excellent Job!

great job man.. kept my interest very well made.. i also saw you in the window a couple of times but overall good piece of work. keep shooting... you should of made some behind the scenes footage. Showing how you put this together.. good job bro.

Thanks for the comments guys,

Title has been changed. Much appreciated :)

I'm looking forward to shooting my next green screen work now that I know a fair bit more about lighting ;)

Heh, a home made dolly was used, which is what explains the many bumps etc that are found in the tracking. I also made a cheap steady cam for some of the shots.

To achieve those birds-eye-view shots, I first placed some aluminium pipe between two ladders. The camera was then vertically attatched to the dolly and pushed along to follow the talent. Bit of an odd set up, but hey, it half worked I guess.

Does anyone know how I can change the thread title or is this a mod only feature? I changed my original posts title, but this doesn't seem to have any effect on the actual thread.

This was most definitely somehow inspired by Donnie Darko. I'm only a minute and a half into it and its got Darko all over it. And you captured the tone nicely, Richard Kelly would be very proud.

HEY this was awesome! Im sure your greenscreen effects are kickass now! You show great skill for previsualizing, and I think you came up with some good dialogue.

I'd bet Donnie Darko and the Matrix were influences but it doesn't matter. Your filmmaking skills are extraordinary no matter what.

Yeah, the Matrix was definatley a large influence. I'm not actually sure if I saw Donnie Darko before or after I finished this film. I think it would have been after - which is suprising as I can now see huge similarites between the two. There were a large amount of other direct influences that some may not expect. Doom 3 for example was inspiration for the lights out "first-person torch" sequence.

Thanks for the kind words. In a few weeks I'm about to shoot a small piece entirley on a greenscreen, so I will have to post up a link to how that went afterward. Unfortunatley, it's not shot on a a DVX but I may throw up a link within this thread anyway.
