Log and Transfer problem in FCP 6.0

OK, so here's my problem:

Today I set up a brand new Mac Pro for a client after convincing her that Mac is pretty freakin sweet and better than Edius (my opinion... nuff said).

We get the latest Nehalem 2x 2.26GHz quad-core, 10GB ram with 3.5TB hdds, running OSX 10.6.2

After installing FCP 6.0 we try and ingest some P2 footage.

The clips are on 2x seagate 1TB external hdds. They load fine into the Log and Transfer window and we're able to preview them fine.

BUT... when we attempt to add any clip to the transfer queue, the progress bar does nothing, and eventually we get a RED exclamation mark of doom.

I have tried the following:
Checking to see if FX Factory is installed. It's not... as far as I can tell.
Unchecked 'Remove Advanced Pull Down' in the import preferences.
Deleted FCP preference files (the usual recommended files to delete).
Copying the P2 data onto the internal hdds to import.

We still cannot import any P2 data... even when the data is stored internally on the mac.

Anyone got any ideas???

You help would be very much appreciated.

Just an idea, im not a mac and FCP User.
But is it possible that you recorded AVC-I, and FCP 6 cant handle this?
Did you tried other recording Formats?

get the panasonic AVC I decoder and install it of you are shooting AVC I otherwise you'll have problems. Also, update to the latest V. of FCP 6.

I updated final cut 6. The footage is now importing OK, but FCP doesn't like it when we work in a timeline while log and transfer works in the background. We get red exclamation errors popping up. AVC I isn't the problem, and FCP 6 handles AVC I fine. I do wonder though if upgrading to FCP 7 would be better. Can you edit P2 and XDCam footage natively - without having to transcode upon import?? - like Adobe Premiere and Edius do?
