GH2 Live view on the GH2 - Really? Interlaced? No 720p?

Hi Everyone,

I've been tinkering with a cable cam off and on for a bout 6 months now and I'm just about ready to start shooting some action with it. So the last thing that I needed to do was the live feed to see what my camera is seeing. I'm not recording via HDMI, just monitoring. So I plugged in the the wireless transmitter, the HDMI converter and the GH2 and got absolutely nothing. I started searching the net and found out that that HDMI converter was not compatible with the GH2 in PAL. Sweet. So I've ordered another one that apparently does work.

But now that I'm doing a bit more digging, I'm reading that the GH2 switches the camera to 1080 50i when the HDMI cable is connected. Sure enough, I've just tried it on a monitor and it does. Seriously, WTF?? Has anyone managed to find a fix for this? Anyone got a magical hack from the future that means that I can record 720 50p? I thought interlaced had been banned under some NATO agreement or something.

Anyone able to help?

Cheers, Prendi

You can do 1080 24p or 25p with an HDMI cable plugged in, but you're correct, you cannot do 720 50p or 60p with a monitor connected. I have no idea why.
