Is it possible to see through live view (original camera display) + an external monitor through hdmi?

No, once you plug an HDMI cable in, the camera's LCD is inactive.

If you want to have both a display on camera and another display for the client you have to run a loop-through.

Nope! Not possible with the 5D either.

not sure but I think you can connect a laptop with the canon software via usb and run an hdmi monitor simultaneously.
